Decided to drive 1,800 miles from Pittsburgh PA to Montrose CO and overland the Rimrocker trail to Moab.

Day 1:

Drove 685 miles on interstate 70 From Pittsburgh to Missouri.

Conserve mode (low) and new 21”. I have the Quad/large and 20 miles short of 30,000k in 22 months.

impressed to get 2.39 efficiency going 75mph (mostly) with the rooftop tent. First night in a hotel in Missouri.

Are you on your trip right now? I did the rimrocker in my 4runner a couple years ago and most of the route is mild, but the section west of la sal pass road gets narrower with a lot more scrub oak pinstripes!

Yes. This is day 1 of driving to Colorado. 685 miles today and we just passed St Louis MO…. 1,000 mile until Montrose….

We plan to skip that section west of La Sal pass, then jump back on after….

Not sure if you are planning on taking rte 50.? There is a closure east of Montrose by blue mesa reservoir until oct 2nd. Not sure if there is a bypass? Maybe a local from the area would know. If you are taking 70 across Colorado you will be fine.

Thank you for that! We are taking 70 across Colorado. I use Waze as a backup navigator but appreciate the heads up!

Cotrip.org is helpful for up to date road information in Colorado. That bridge closure has been a pain but they're getting close to finishing the repairs. You should say hi when you're passing through Grand Junction!

Have a great trip. I recommend only using converse mode if you need the range to make it to your next charge. Your tires will thank you later.

Even at highway speed on cruise? I don’t use it except long road trips. I wait until I’m at speed, put it in conserve, and start Driver +. A mile before the exit I switch back to all purpose.

conserve runs great. The problem is it eats up the front tires much faster. I’ve had an R1T since Sept 2021. I use to do all road trips with conserve mode trying to get highest range. I didn’t rotate my tires often enough. Ended up replacing them after just 1 year at 20k miles. 20” ATs.
Since then I realized conserve doesn’t really help much if you are stopping to charge frequently anyway. My new approach for conserve is only to flip it on if I know I need those extra miles between charges.

end of the day it’s really down to tire rotation and the more front wheel driving the more frequent those rotations will have to be. But it’s all good, and the R1T is a great road tripper.

That's good efficency with the tent mounted on the back. Do you have some data that indicates how much range is impacted compared with nothing on the back?

I don’t have statistical data but from a functional perspective I notice no difference. I’ve had it mounted for over a month so my daily driving efficiency seems identical. I’m sure there’s scientific data to say otherwise, but where I sit, there’s no range or efficiency impact.

Day 2:

Plugged in at a campground in western Kansas sucking in 50amps….

A 500+ mile drive further across I-70.

efficiency dropped as I gained elevation today. At least that’s my assumption. All other parameters equal. We will be in Montrose tomorrow.
