When did this happen? Rivian advertised free LTE for life? Legit question as i do not recall this. They had pitched some membership idea (at a cost) then announced they would break out the services (at cost) and announced a while ago that free-LTE would, as expected (I thought), end.

No, they never offered it. They specially stated that it was not permanent. Hence, they covered their bases.

Rivian has made clear from day 1 that everyone was receiving features for free but would eventually be asked to pay for some or all of them. That did not need to happen in the IPO to cover any legal liability you are referring to.

To offer something that the reasonable consumer would assume is available for life, and then charge for it would run afoul of myriad state and federal false advertising laws. You want me to cite them all to you? You don’t think false advertising laws exist? ???

All of this and my position has always been that Rivian was upfront about this, as required by law, and thus didn’t do anything shady.
