Tire Replacement via local certified installer - tips / suggestions?

I know Rivian states Discount tire and American tire are authorized but they are no where near me in Central NJ. Mavis Tire would be awesome but they are not working on EVs or only specific ones based on my inquires. I spoke with Rivian and they stated this is a mobile service appointment and the next slot is February 2025, really.

I can get the tires from tire rack.com and a local certified installer said no problem let's go.

Any thing specific I should look out for or inform the installer about? I have jack pucks so that is fine and the mechanic said they use them with Teslas all the time.

While a pro shop shouldn't need the video below, the number of Discount Tires and other's that have screwed up the process is shocking. It's the main reason why we put together the simple video below, which is pretty short and self-explanatory. (edited from original).



Discount Tire used to be a forum sponsor but they were incompetent on Rivian jack puck usage and damaged a number of Rivian owners. It was so bad, they left the forums......be careful.

While a pro shop doesn't need all the video, probably the most important parts are making sure the vehicle is in the highest setting and that the R1 is in 'tire change mode'. You can have your shop take a look at the video below, which details how to properly get the Rivian ready.

+100. My discount tire got out the pucks and I watched as they almost jacked at the bolt holes, not even looking to remove the circle covers. I told the installer that was wrong before he jacked and the supervisor came over and taught them.

This is what makes me really nervous but can't wait months to get new tires, so out of options really. Super nice guy and seemed like he wanted to learn the right thing so he could get more Rivian's into his shop.

Properly raising a Rivian using jack pucks isn't rocket science. It just requires a very simple process to follow. I prefer smaller private shops when at all possible.

Rivian just called and said they can get me into a Trenton on Nov 7th.... decision time.

(repost) Because of these challenges and multiple Discount Tire failures (ruining plastic), to not knowing where the lift/puck locations are on the Rivian chassis, I produced some Jack Puck Port Identfier Emblems. They turned out great, so I made quite a few. Epoxy Dome style.

I had Discount Tire change a tire on my R1T under warranty. They did fine, but did say they do not put Rivians on their lift. Instead they lift one wheel at a time with a floor jack. I did stress to them about using the pucks and possible damage, so maybe they were extra careful.

Just got back from Mavis Tire in Freehold NJ on Route 9. The crew there were great. They asked all the right questions and took their time.
