The auto power outlets setting was a nice update but my auto setting does not stick. I have to turn it back on every 3 or 2 or 1 or 5 days. Always a fun guessing game with Rivian. You just never know if any of your settings will stick.

Please stop changing our settings. I'm tired of interacting with the touchscreen over and over because the software is terrible. It's dangerous (taking eyes off road constantly) and annoying.

Why are you messing with shit like outlet power settings while driving instead of just pulling over and adjusting those or doing so at the start or end of your drive?

There is a setting that allows the power outlets to turn on when your vehicle is in use and off when it's not in use. It's called auto.

I plug my phone's fast charger into the 120V outlet

I set it to stay on auto but Rivian decides whenever it feels like to turn this setting off. So I often plug it in and come to see my phone isn't even charging. So I have to go through the settings to turn it back on so my phone will charge.

I have never owned any vehicle (or any electronic anything for that matter) where the user can set a specific setting however they wish and the device with no user input devices to RANDOMLY change this setting to something other than what the user set it at.

This is just one of many settings that Rivian messes with. AC controls, seat vents, display default setting (decides to go to navigation screen whenever it feels like it), home proximity unlocking, etc etc. The list is endless. It is absurd that owners need to constantly mess with the UI because Rivian can't leave user settings alone.

Why can’t you plug your phone into the always on USB c in the center console? Regardless, if you want to take your eyes off the road to charge your phone, a non critical action, and compromise your safety that’s on you. Don’t blame Rivian for that.

There are ways to solve your problem safely and while the outlet should stay working it is not a safety issue as you stated and that is what I’m pushing back on.

Unfortunately, when they added this 'feature' last month, they removed the ability to turn off the outlets from the rear screen. All I can do from the rear screen is start or change the timer. I used to be able to turn off the outlets from the rear screen after parking.

The anemic USB outlets output 1/4 of the power that my 120V fast charger provides. I'll be lucky to get a 15% increase in charge in an hour if I go with your insightful suggestion. Obviously it is not a practical solution for me.

I don't consider the act of charging a near dead cell phone any more or any less of a "non-critical action" as adjusting air vents or changing the fan speed of my HVAC. All of which take an equal amount of eyes off the road and compromising of one's safety. So I hope you pull into a parking lot to make any adjustments to your HVAC. Otherwise you are putting yourself and others at risk.

It is not difficult to understand that more interaction with the screen compromises safety. This is basic common sense. My complaint is Rivian unnecessarily increases this interaction with numerous software bugs. My post is to bring attention to the obvious existence of this one particular bug. If you want to defend the existence of this bug and non-action on Rivian's part, that's your prerogative. But I must admit, it is a very odd prerogative.

Thank you for advising me of the ability to charge my phone inside my home. I was not aware there was such an option.

Thank you also for advising me that modern phones have batteries that will last all day and never need charging outside the home. I will remind myself of your advice when my 4-month old Samsung S24U battery doesn't make it through the day. Placing this thought in my head will allow my battery to hold the charge until I get home. Such invaluable feedback. Thank you.

This is one of the amazing things about these forums. There is so much wealth of knowledge here it's hard to believe one could make it through life without them.

You’re getting pushback because you’re whining over a trivial issue. There are many ways to solve it.

The issue is that while Rivian uses USB-C connectors on all the charging ports in the vehicle, they didn't upgrade the electronics behind the ports. My testing showed these ports didn't support PD (Power Delivery) and were thus stuck at 5 Volts and unable to provide any real power to devices.

As I remember on my 2022 R1T, the USB-C ports in the center console were limited to 12 Watts (2.4 Amps), the ones on the rear display were limited to 7.5 Watts (1.5 Amps), and the ones in the headrests were limited to 6 Watts (1.2 Amps). All pretty anemic when trying to charge modern phones and almost pointless when trying to charge a tablet like an iPad. Junk USB chargers is a common reason why people get the "Not Charging" message on an iPad and other devices.

Luckily, my R1T is old enough that it was before the de-content process that removed the 12V socket underneath the dash. I put an Anker 40 Watt dual USB-C charger https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0843SCLYH in that outlet and use that instead to hook up my phone charging cable(s). It's a little less convenient than the vehicle's USB-C outlets, but a much better charging experience.

For @Surferdude, if you don't have the 12V power outlet under your dash, https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...stalled-12-volt-outlets-under-the-dash.22873/ is a thread here on the forums where @Joules Burn added 12 Volt outlets to an R1S that didn't come with the under-dash outlet and included details on where they tapped into the fuse box for power.

Edit: I haven't used the inverter, so can't comment on it changing the preferences on the 120 Volt outlets, but I do agree that it changing that preference would be annoying. Maybe they'll fix that in an upcoming update.

Perhaps a trivial issue depending on your perspective. But it's very odd that you or anyone would defend Rivian's bugs.

Some of us here on this forum want Rivian to succeed. And that means bringing bugs and flaws to their attention. To water down the issues as you strive to do, even ones you may consider trivial, just results in complacency on Rivian's part. You are not doing Rivian any favors.

Bugs are a fact of life when Rivian is changing software as fast as they are. Want less bugs, you’ll get less features. How is whining on a forum bringing it to Rivian’s attention? Starting a thread to complain doesn’t solve the problem or notify anyone that needs to know.

If your reason was helping Rivian as you claim you’d put in a ticket and move on. Considering every month they are fixing bugs it’s not like they won’t get to it.

Agree. I have found that the Auto setting need to be turned on every few days. I thought the 35.0 update fixed it, but doesn't seem to be the case.

Will see if 39.0 brings consistency.

Not a deal breaker, but would be good to have this (among many) minor issue fixed.

Oh I've submitted tickets. Not at all surprised you would presume I took no such action. I've received no responses or feedback from anyone at Rivian. Personally, all the "features" that have come during my ownership have not improved my experience whatsoever. Of course for some people here on this forum changing interior light colors and fresh screen graphics excite them. I just want a vehicle that's reliable and operates consistently. To each their own.

Then you haven’t had your R1 very long. I’ve had mine two years, and the amount of software improvements I have received has been amazing. I am grateful because in my estimation my truck has double the features I paid for.

Your vehicle operates just fine, this is a complaint about the 120V outlet. Talk about a penny ante problem. If this is really that serious to you I suggest reflection and being grateful about how little you have to complain about.
