To Shop, or to Order?

(I tried posting this as my first ever post to r/Rivian (and to Reddit in general), and apparently Reddit requires access to your retirement savings and ownership of your firstborn (in the form of karma?!?!) in order to post).

I've been waiting to grab an R1T TRI. They're (finally) beginning to appear in the shop, so now I'm ready to nab one. I have a specific configuration that I'm after. Is it the case that, if I place an order (with the $3k deposit), and subsequently see that config in the shop, I can't grab the one in the shop, or if I do, I lose the deposit?

Also, while I'm at it, I live about 40 minutes from the Normal plant. Will the Normal plant serve both as my dealer (where I pick up), as well as my SC? I'd hate to have to go up to the Chicago area...

I already asked my guide and they said you will get one of the deposits back. I just nabbed a White Tri R1T with ocean coast interior with 22" tires out of the shop. I couldn't believe they had my configuration in there. There haven't been many R1T Tri's in the shop.

I did pick up a R1S from normal about 1 1/2 years ago. Which you can do if you ask and get a factory tour. I don't know about your service center. I don't live local to the plant.

That doesn’t work, unfortunately from my experience.

I had at least two folks now who use my referral code to place a custom order and they subsequently had switched to shop vehicles and Rivian refused to honor the referral bonus. In one case the person was told by Rivian the referral was applied and would be credited but later Rivian said they were ineligible.

im guessing this is because they are already a customer when they order the custom config so when they switch they are ineligible for that reason.

My suggestion would be to the OP if you want to take advantage of the referral bonus for the 750 and six months free charging to click referral and order shop vehicle. Otherwise, the referral will get kicked out as ineligible.

the Rivian Roamer site has some good tools on it for monitoring available inventory.

If I were buying today with the referral program, I would be patient monitor inventory and pull the trigger as soon as my desired config showed up.

I'm about 40 minutes west of Normal and I can't imagine you wouldn't use Normal for service. I have had excellent service there (although too frequent ?).

Yes I am near Peoria. If you played Weaver, Coyote & Metamora Fields it is easy to get your ass kicked??. Actually even the two main park district courses (Kellogg & Newman) are good courses too. That doesn't include Pekin's Lick Crick.

Rob & Chase at the Normal SC are excellent. Jason is the mobile tech. You couldn't be in a better spot. ?

Excellent!. Hopefully I won't be getting to know any of them too closely.
