Just wanted to give you guys some personal feedback on Time-of-Use (TOU) electricity rates. ConEd-New York has 3 different rates for EV owners:
We switched to the TOU rate a year ago, with the Rivian set to charge during off-peak hours (midnight to 8am). Since then, it has proven to be a great choice. Our Rivian, which is our daily driver, logged about 17,000 miles last year, and we spent on average $28/month on charging. On top of that, without any changes to our daily electricity habits (i.e. we didn’t live by candlelight, same HVAC usage during the summer months, etc.), our average monthly electricity bills also seem to have dropped significantly.
So, all in all, if you haven't done so already, I’d highly recommend looking into the TOU rate for anyone who primarily charges their Rivian at home.
- Standard Rate: 15.112 cents per kWh at all times throughout the year.
- Standard Rate with Smartcharge-NY Rebates: Offers rebates based on EV charging cycles.
- TOU Rate: 2.33 cents per kWh during off-peak hours (midnight to 8 a.m. and weekends), 12.23 cents per kWh from 8 a.m. to midnight (October to May), and 33.05 cents per kWh from 8 a.m. to midnight (June to September).
