I have a panic button on my Toyota key fob. I use it in the rare instance when I have “lost” my car in a parking lot. It really does help me find my car. I also like the security of knowing that I can hit the button if I am walking to my car alone at night. I am curious as to why the Rivian key fob lacks a panic button. Does anyone know why they wouldn’t include a panic button, besides the key fob has four quadrants and there is no more space?

Most likely their app will feature some vehicle control functions that allow you to sound off the horn or flash the lights, etc a., similar to the Tesla app, which could help you find the car.

It does have a panic mode. From the Owner's Manual:

Also, wouldn't be surprised if they implemented a lat/long map feature given the adventure focus. I can see a use case where you may want to take a different path back to your vehicle from the trail you initially set off at; although such a feature is probably pretty low on the priority list...

It’s rude when people use the panic function to “locate” their vehicle, imo. Your phone shows you the location of the vehicle if you really need to know the general area (I did use this feature on my current vehicle when I went to a sporting event and needed to know where my vehicle was relative to where I was in the stadium). Even if you drive an older vehicle, as long as you have bluetooth your smart phone has the ability to automatically mark your vehicle location on a map when it disconnects.

yes I absolutely hate it when your walking through a parking lot and there is an alarm just screaming as someone just nonchalantly walks up to it be cause they couldn't remember where they parked. Its kind of useless now days as a panic button thanks to these idiots because we are so used to hearing it.

LR and others have a headlamp flash and one chirp of the horn on the fob for vehicle location purposes. That should be sufficient…

…I configured my Defender without an alarm. The dealer thought I was crazy but I was living in a city where everyone loathes and aggressively ignores a car alarm.

i hate it when you bend into the back of a vehicle and push your key against the bumper and trigger it.

Thanks. Unfortunately, I don’t always carry my phone with me. I run and during races I keep it in the car. It is tough to run with an iPhone in my pocket.

Maybe it will make this chirping sound, instead of the typical loud honking noise.

I haven’t had a fob with a panic button in 15 years.
usually it’s a long press of the lock button or holding down two buttons.

Your R1 will probably be easier to find in a parking lot than a highlander.
leave the suspension at max heght. Hopefully you’re getting a bright colour, like yellow or blue.

Smart watch? I wear an Apple Watch when I run and hike. It also has a map and marks vehicle location.

Garmin Forerunner 735XT. Just googled and it seems that there is an app Garmin offers to find my car, which is pretty cool. Going to download it.

I've got an older vehicle, with only BT connectivity. Does this require a specific app? Because my phone won't do it natively.

Thanks for the recommendations. Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving yesterday. I lived in Yaletown, a neighborhood in downtown Vancouver a few years ago and didn‘t need a car. I really want my R1S, but I would prefer to live in a walkable city where I don’t need one.
