This is just my personal opinion, just seems like so many people these days always want someone else to be responsible for choices they make that do not turn out as they wish.

Although I agree the Rivian person should not have said they would get the reward without fully understanding the question or circumstance but, it is also important for the people trying to get a reward to fully understand the parameters of the reward process. The rewards program is there to entice people to purchase from on hand inventory as there is a cost associated with carrying that inventory.

If people want to try to game the system by switching to a vehicle that does not qualify, ranting as if they were wronged seems like a huge over reaction to me.

@SANZC02, I think the issue, at least for @Electrified Outdoors and @BananaBoat, is about switching from a vehicle that wouldn't have qualified to a vehicle that, according to the information you posted, should have qualified.

I understand @Electrified Outdoors' and @BananaBoat's frustration. When Rivian's poor communication causes frustrations like this, it would be wise for Rivian to make it right.

Rivian clearly stated in their Rewards Terms and Restrictions that existing preorder holders are excluded from the program.


b. Referral Code Restrictions Referral Code Restrictions

Referral Codes cannot be applied retroactively. Referrals for existing preorder and/or reservation holders who purchase vehicles using their current preorder and/or reservation are excluded from this Program.


This means that you have to cancel your preorder before placing an order from the shop to qualify for the rewards. I had a preorder for the Quad and knew that if I didn’t cancel it before buying my shop Trị I wouldn’t get the rewards so I did. There was no problem for me - I got the rewards within two weeks of delivery. Lucky for me my deposit was fully refundable so I could cancel and get my deposit back. For preorders with non-refundable deposit, rewards are out of the question.

This exact same thing happened to me. It appears they've since added a few new line items to the T&Cs. It's not the end of the world, but it does leave a sour taste when you're told you'll get something and they have to backtrack on it.

I ran into this the other day. Wanted to use the self-referral rewards but still had a $500 deposit pending on an old reservation. Once I applied the $500 the referral was gonzo!

I ran into this the other day. Wanted to use the self-referral rewards but still had a $500 deposit pending on an old reservation. Once I applied the $500 the referral was gonzo!
Kind of sad to hear this. It's a bad move from Rivian. If they keep doing this they're going to lose out on customer loyalty.

Rivian accidentally applied three rewards to my account, rather than two: it’s been like pulling teeth getting them to fix this properly, trying to fix this they removed 2 sets of gear-store points but left 18 months of free RAN charging in place! Almost a month later of dealing with our guide and customer support trying to get us to the correct 1500 points and 12 months of free RAN is going no where. It’s amazing how broken their internal systems are - I feel much of what’s interpreted as them sticking to the rules ‘too dogmatically’ is actually just a result of a Byzantine order system that they simply cant get under control.

Kind of sad to hear this. It's a bad move from Rivian. If they keep doing this they're going to lose out on customer loyalty.
It stopped me from impulse buying an R1S...if I could get the rewards, the lease rate and my $500 they would have had a sale. All in all though I'm better off so I can't be too mad....
