One is officially covered by Rivian and the other isn't. And if it's the old A2Z the manual lock is annoying sometimes.
Thanks...reason for the ask my A2Z was replaced and now Rivian shipped my adapter and put of the blue Ford shipped me an adapter for a lease I turned in 7-8 mins ago...so I have 3 of them is why the ask...Fords adapter looks exactly like Rivian.

Rivian/ Tesla one feels like its a kids toy, both generation A2Z could be thrown at someone; knock them out, and still charge your vehicle after.
I am leaning towards keeping A2Z...probably sell both adapters for $150 each with slow USPS shipping..

I find the A2Z adaptor to be much higher quality than the Tesla ones we received from Rivian. When I purchased mine A2Z were only selling the Typhoon Pro that had the better “locking” mechanism.

I was shocked when I used a v4 with the magicdock and it was the same chincy adapter

Not sure what price the market will bear given all of the adaptors people are trying to sell these days.

Tesla manufactures the adapter that Rivian (and until recently, Ford) sent to owners. That adapter looks almost exactly like the Magic Dock adapters in some Superchargers (with the exception that the cable locking mechanism is locked down on the magic dock versions.

With the (past) commotion over drivers (naturally) using aftermarket (e.g., NACS-to-CCS1, CCS1-to-NACS) adapters at manufacturer's (Tesla, Rivian) and third-party (Electrify America, EVgo, ChargePoint, etc.) charging stations, I wish that the reputable sellers (like A2Z) of aftermarket adapters would (somehow) push their (Asian) sources to get authorization/certification from the manufacturers.* I know; easier said than done. And probably expensive. But the (Asian) manufactures can probably afford it. If the, say, A2Z adapter had the blessing of Rivian, there would/should be no problem at any charging station, you would think.
_____
* Maybe this has already been done for some products?

I’ve had no trouble with either of them (the updated A2Z). Tesla just comes in a cardboard box but the A2Z includes a nice case. Oh and the Tesla adaptor is free, while the A2Z costs $$$

I grabbed some door bags and bought both A2Z adapters and dropped them in the driver's door for easy access and no issues...A2Z does have a nice case...kinda of like a Apple device unboxing

FYI, this YouTube video from State of Charge's Tom Moloughney is interesting. Although it is more about a planned A2Z NACS-to-NACS extension cable for Supercharging, it also concerns A2Z's relationship with Tesla. And since it is likely that Rivian owners and vehicles will increasingly be using Tesla charging equipment (e.g., Superchargers), it pertains to Rivians, as well.

I like the Rivian adapter better. A bit smaller, easier to handle. Another advantage to it is if you do ever have a problem that results in damage (remote possibility) you will have a better case if you are using the Rivian supplied adapter.
