Any one regretted the R1S based on size?

Nope. Perfect size!

R1S is bit smaller than what I’m used to. I haven’t had such an easy time parking in a decades. Was worried it wasn’t big enough for family and traveling but so far we’ve fit everything and everyone.

Absolutely love the vehicle and size is great. Without having prior experience with a larger SUV there will be an adjustment period, but the tech will help you quickly adjust.

We are considering the R1S but it’s much larger than our current small suv. (We also have a reservation on a R2 but I imagine it will be two years before it’s in Canada). Anyone find their R1s is too large? There is just two of us but we bike, hike, camp etc

No. Its smaller than nearly all 7 seaters. Its exactly 6" longer than my Land Rover LR4. The R1S feels bigger than it is. I believe it is becuase the hood looks and feels like a Toyota Tundra Full size truck hood. My LR4 hood makes the front end feel much smaller and has 200% better visibility. R1S are the same size as a Honda Pilot. So Still much better than driving an Expedition, Sequoia, etc. There really aren't many better options for BEVs for another few years if you need towing, 7 seats, 4x4 etc. The value of the KIA EV9 or whatever its called is really bad when you compare the specs and capabilities to the R1S.

I was on travel for work and rented a Toyota Camry hybrid. I never realized how big the Rivians are until I pulled up next to one. Anyway, for my daily driver, I went from a Honda Ridgeline to an R1T, so gained some inches along all the axes. I am in the minority (seemingly) in that I wish it was smaller all around. I'm really good at packing so I feel like the extra size is unnecessary. I know bigger vehicles are all the rage in the west, but I'm a fan of non-excessiveness.

All that said, the R1T handles extremely well, so well that you forget how big it actually is until you have to parallel park in the city somewhere.

Totally. I went from a T to an S and even that change makes the S feel small. I wouldn't want anything smaller than the S I have and with how well it handles it feels like a much smaller vehicle.

I've gone from a HD truck to a fair sized SUV to a Tesla Model 3. Maybe it's just me but the size differences haven't provided many negatives. Just in the middle of washing my very salt stained model 3 by hand and that would be onerous on an R1. But having moved up and down a few times, I would say you get used to the size pretty quick. I like the looks of the T a lot more than the S but if you don't need/want a truck then you are pretty limited. You can't go wrong with the S. I've considered it and just keeping the 3rd row permanently down but the truck appeals to me more.

The Scout traveler might also be an option as a good sized SUV but without a 3rd row but it's likely another year or so off from the R2 release.

I agree with you about the R1T looking better, that’s one of the reasons I purchased the truck initially. I needed an SUV for a growing teenage boy and my two 85lb dogs to travel with us. The five of us weren’t too comfortable in the cab of the T for long distances.

I will say that the looks of the S are growing on me.

Good to know. I’m 6 feet and husband 6’3 so I find the lower vehicles to be more the issues. Tried a Prius the other day and hated getting in and out

The r1s should be sufficient for your height as long as there are no 6’+ humans in the 2nd row seats (we consider the 3rd row seats as emergency use only because they are not really functional). The rivians have limited legroom compared with full size American trucks…to us they are sized similarly to a tacoma vs. a f-series or ram or silverado. We sat in a Sierra ev and it has significantly more legroom (front& back) than rivian.

Since you are taller than average, if the front seats are moved far enough rearward, they will prevent the 2nd row seats from collapsing.

There will be a learning curve regarding the increase in size from small suv to r1s (the larger hood, turning radius), and the onboard electronics (sensors & cameras) really help driving in close quarters. Be aware that the hood will dramatically reflect sunlight at sunrise & sunset.

If you buy a rivian, consider installing running boards to make ingress & egress easier (even for 6’+ humans). ?

Yes, I regret the size. I regret how small it is.

• I had to buy new car seats for my kids because the ones I were using before do not fit.
  
  
• I now have to rent a trailer when I go to Home Depot or to my self-storage unit much more frequently than before.
  
  
• When we go on road trips or to the airport I have to use a cargo rack because the amount of space behind the 3rd row is minuscule. There is room for 7 people or 7 suitcases, but not 7 people and 7 suitcases.

The only reason I don't actually regret the purchase is because there were not any full sized electric SUVs. Fingers crossed that there will be more choices by the time I am in the market for another vehicle.
