I was wondering, the scenario described of getting locked out when in carwash mode seems like it would happen often...as many vacuum right after a wash.

When you put it in car wash mode the screen tells you how to open the door by pushing on the front part of the door handles. If you didn’t already know.

When we returned to camp I got out to the truck and walked away and as soon as I heard the door lock chirp I realized my phone was inside.

We use PAAK exclusively (although we each carry keycards in our wallets) and use the fob for service or valet only. Is there a setting that would allow the Rivian to lock with your phone in it? I've accidentally left my phone in the car a couple of times and when I realized it and went back to the Rivian it was sitting there happily unlocked with the handles extended out. As far as I've experienced, the only way for me to actually lock my phone in the car would be for someone to use the fob or an app to lock it. Anyone else?

The thing I haven't liked about hitch safes is the locking hitchpins seem like they are easily broken off. The one you linked to looks like the hitch pin holes have inserts that are secured from the inside. You feel like it is secure? Whats in the hitch safe is all anyone needs to ride off in my truck (with no pin to drive feature).

Yes, I have seen the cheap ones. When setting this safe up, you slide the empty safe drawer in, then insert the metal pins. You secure the pins with a metal tab on the inside.The pins cant be pushed or forced inwards because of the large cap at the end. Once you put the cover on it blends perfectly and you can hardly notice it's there.
Can it be broken into? I am sure with enough determination and tools like an angle grinder you could sheer them off, but that would not be an easy task.

To start; I am an idiot. I dont need piling on. Also, this is more for the newer owners.

There i was, walking my dog on a picturesque coastal Maine beach. It was a really nice morning. One of those warm 10° feels like -2 days. I admit (see above) I left the house with a low phone battery. After taking a photo to send to my wife who is currently in a much warmer climate; my phone died. What were the chances that when i cleaned my wallet out during my last work trip i put the card back in it? Nope!!! There ensued my having to walk my dog 2 miles home and me having to ride my bike back. With my wife's ill-fitting helmet. (Mine of coure was in the truck.)

So! Positives and Deltas. Nice day, my dog and i got more exercise. Plus i got some reinforced life lessons. Always have a second form of a key with you.

I wear a helmet any time Im on a bike (not when Im repairing them.). Plus the ground is covered in ice and i was riding with flow if traffic. Ive been to too many bike accidents.

Almost had the same experience, only camping in a very remote area. Three of us, my nephew, good friend and me. So I gave the key fob to my friend, the card to my nephew and kept the phone. I always leave the phone on the charge pad when driving. When we returned to camp I got out to the truck and walked away and as soon as I heard the door lock chirp I realized my phone was inside. No problem I asked my nephew for the key card. He says "It's in my backpack, in the truck. Great. Luckily I had given the fob to my friend and we were able to get into the truck. Otherwise it would have been a very long tow from an area with no cell service.

Well I don't think you would have run into the same issue even if you didn't have the fob. I assume you have the remote lock on with the fob since it locked. If you just had your phone and it was still inside the truck it won't lock if you walk away. So if you just had your phone (and no key card or fob) then the truck would not have locked when you left it in the truck. It only locked because of the fob.

I think the issue was that he walked away with his working phone and the truck locked. He took the required photo for his wife and sent it to her, and THEN his phone died...

I don't take my keycard out of my wallet - ever. It will be going to Mexico with me next week because I'm seriously worried that I won't return it when I get back!

Anyone found a good "hide a key" contraption for the card? Or a good, secure spot to hide it?
I guess if you told us, then people from this forum could steal your Riv, but what are the chances of that?!?

Good on you! I heard somewhere death can occur from a head injury going over 11mph, without a helmet. As stupid as it makes me look; I always wear a helmet.

Second that...Our rule was always pretty simple: If I made the kids wear a helmet riding or skiing, then I would too. It's like seat belts: Set the example!

Good question. My guess would be yes because a dead phone is similar to no phone near so the truck would lock.

So who wants to do an experiment? Let your phone battery get really low and put it into your Rivian and leave it there (maybe watching a movie) until it dies and see if the Rivian locks when it no longer detects a phone. Inquiring minds want to know...

Sounds good but I would have to disable no lock at home. Shucks.
