Been planning for months to order an R1T TRI when the lease on my Ford F150 Hybrid is over and now the time has come. Getting cold feet as I read some new posts with serious issues. Not afraid of some issues but am concerned with long down times. Really don’t have another desirable choice as I would like something smaller than the F150 so the Lightening and Sierra are less than ideal options. Some feedback from others who were feeling the same would be appreciated.

People who are generally happy with their vehicle mostly don't say anything. The minority who have bad experiences tend to be very vocal.

Not to say that people don't have issues, but what you read online is not a representative sample.

If it is down, they give you a loaner. I don't have a Tri but a Gen1 quad. I've had it for almost 6 months. I've had one shop visit. They took great care of me and I had no major issues.

I don't think I'd sweat it too much. Stuff can happen to any vehicle, even the supposedly "reliable" ones. Overall the R1T is great and I'd buy another one tomorrow if something happened to mine.

Richard-get as many test drives as you can. Spend time asking questions of the staff at the SC during the test drives. As others have mentioned, people without any problems are mostly not on here. I did my own research and made up my own mind. All the best.

Not sure where you live in NJ, but proximity to a service center is an absolute must to own a Rivian and I do a Gen 1 R1T.

My SC is within 2 miles of work and I'm dropping it off tomorrow to fix what will probably be a half shaft or motor issue in the rear when clutch engage or disengages. Drives fine, but the noise is clear something isn't right and when I drop it off I already have an Enterprise rental email from Rivian and they'll do there thing and then I'll bring the rental to the SC and pick up my car. No inconvenience, and a homemade Cake place is right by the SC so dessert to go.

BUT if I was 30 minutes or more from a SC, there is ZERO chance I would have bought the a Rivian. I've had to drop it off 5 times for minor items in 18 months and even 1 hour round trip each time would have made me miserable.

FWIW there are people on here with hours long drive to a SC they knew about and still purchased a Rivian. They are crazy, nothing is worth that kind of back and forth trip for a vehicle.

I bought my Quad R1S 2 years ago, you can read my 2 year report.

I was leary about picking it up at the factory and taking a long route home based on things on the forum but decided to do it anyways. I was very happy I did not let the forum dissuade me from having that experience.

20 months owner R1T quad. My truck has been in the shop for minor recalls with one visit discovering a leaky CV boot that Rivian repaired. My other visits have been for tire rotation and multipoint inspection.

37k and 3 years of no service needs on my 2, besides Rivian fixing a loose windshield wiper fluid tube in my garage. Awesome vehicles Gen1, Gen 2 did seem to have growing pains but they should be through most 1st year issues soon ?

People who are on here that don't have issues don't repeatedly post that they don't have issues. I'm one of them. OK, I have had one trip to a service center, to replace the torn off tail gate trim, but it was painless. I also had mobile service come to my house for a recall issue that turned out to not apply to my R1T.

People with issues are more likely to post about them. The people who post on rivianforums are but a small percentage of owners, an only a small percentage of them post about having serious issues.

I‘ve been having a very challenging experience with my Rivians, and here’s my main piece of advice: Before you drive off the lot, spend ample time inspecting and testing the vehicle, and don‘t hesitate to reject it if you have any doubts.

My first R1T was something of an outlier I’ve never heard of someone taking a mechanically sound Rivian in for service and then needing a buyback because the service center caused such severe issues. Despite that, we purchased an R1S based on the positive experience we had with the first R1T before its problems started. That R1S has and continues to be great.

Our second R1T represents a more common scenario: problems surfaced on day one and never really went away. In hindsight, we should have walked away and requested a different VIN when we first saw it go into turtle mode. If anything about the vehicle makes you uncertain, walk away and ask for a new VIN. Learn from my mistake: do as I say, not as I did.

I’m in the “it’s been amazing” boat which is the majority of people. Fortunately for almost all of the stories on here of bigger problems, Rivian seems to take very good care of you. If you’re close enough to a SC, that’s great. If you’re really far from one, take that into consideration in your calculation.
