If what he posted is true, this is yet another downgrade from what we were told the vehicle would include. CS had previously stated that the headlights were “active” corner adaptive, meaning they physically move to illuminate the road ahead when turning. It’s a significantly more effective and longer range solution for better visibility than simply using the fog lights to illuminate the corners.

Lets hope “done” doesn’t mean “don’t”. Otherwise this is yet another over promise and under deliver ”price increase”.

Physically moving headlights is the older active/adaptive technology, but newer technology with fixed LED switching is also considered active/adaptive, so it's not necessarily a downgrade. To me, it's not clear at this point exactly what Rivian has or hasn't implemented, or what might be physically implemented but not functional yet.

"ADB systems use sensors and special light unit designs that can change the shape, brightness, and direction of the light. This can be done with a shutter system, which physically blocks part of the headlight beam, or with a matrix-style headlight unit made up of multiple light sources that can be turned on and off as needed. Adaptive headlights can also refer to light systems that shift direction depending on the vehicle’s steering inputs..."

I have turning headlights on my current car and its nice, but honestly I don't see how this wouldn't be functionally equivalent if it's tied to the steering and illuminates into the corner.

I think these are curb lights and not directional headlights.

that's not alternate, pretty standard these days in higher optioned vehicles. The new high end are LED lights that move and stuff, but they're not really legal in the US yet so no one does those here, but in Europe they do things like light up the next lane when you're changing lanes, etc. Pretty cool
