I like to keep my truck unlocked while parked in the garage. Does this mean the fan and the Android computer will never turn off?
Oh, you're one of those! :) No, you're good -- you don't have to actually lock the doors. A few minutes after you close the doors (and there aren't any occupants), the computer and fan will turn off. As soon as you open the doors, the computer will boot back up.

Sorry about the earlier site snafu, the response was extremely overwhelming and crashed the site. It's back up now, so please visit the following link:

EV Play – Preorder Deposit – EV PLAY

Note: If you tried ordering before, the link might keep redirecting you to the home page. If so, clear your cache or try a different browser.
After reviewing the device and it's capabilities, I decided to take the plunge since it will unlock additional things I wanted. Looking forward to the device!

I currently have the EVSprotsline AA screen but have made the deposit for your device. Looking forward to it.

Definitely also interested in the installation procedure. Assuming all the tools parts etc needed are all included in the box...

How many orders have you received as part of the pre order? What are your plans around timelines for current and future orders?

You can do all 3:

-HDMI to USB adapter (certain ones, will sell them on the site eventually) will allow you to output most HDMI sources to the Rivian screen.

-You're getting an 8-core, 64bit Android computer, Pi away!

-It has an NPU capable of 6TOPS. Pretty capable for local LLMs.

All these aren't supported officially(yet), so "you break it, you buy it" as they say. But if you are a tinkerer at heart, then tinker away!
Can you link a good HDMI to USB that'd work so I can order it ahead of time?

Long pressing anything is annoying AF for tasks that require frequent use. You won't be switching back and forth in rapid succession, but often enough where having to long press a button to do so each time is going to drive you nuts.

The "janky" button is fast, reliable, can be mounted anywhere, and doesn't require taking your eyes off the road to press.
In that case, maybe a certain gesture on the screen that's normally innocuous to both interfaces. I just personally hate having extra wires to run/hide, or non-stock things to mount.

No extra wires (it is completely wireless), double-stick foam tape so it is secure, but not permanent. It's black, and I have mine mounted to the side of the center console, down towards my seat (check out the video on evplay.io if you haven't already). No one can see it but you, it blends right in. It becomes second nature since your arm is most likely resting on the arm rest already.

There a few obstacles with a gesture:

· There isn't really any available real estate across all the screens, on both the RIvian UI and the EV Play UI. You also have to consider what might appear in those locations in future updates, on both devices.

· A gesture would require modification to the Rivian UI, and that starts getting into that grey area of IP and warranty. It also is something that Rivian could patch pretty easily.

I understand the want to have it built into the Rivian UI, and perhaps that will happen in the future. But as someone who has used this regularly for months, I would not use a built-in gesture even if it were there.

I think if anything, a long press of the right thumb wheel on the steering wheel could be an option. But again, I'm not a fan of long pressing anything in this particular use case.

Will enabling video-in-motion just be a setting that we can manually enable?
No. You could ground the parking brake wire to the metal housing of the rear of the unit to bypass it though.

Kidding about the bypass...those that bought aftermarket Pioneer DVD units back in the day get the reference.

Completely wireless! I sure would be glad to see how the install is done in that case. One thing I disliked with the current added screen is the acces to the fuse panel, not too bad but definitely more restrictive to access when connecting that thing.
