I'm in South Florida and the leaking tailgate stories have me concerned. I don't have a garage and so this would be outside pretty much all the time. as owners of RIS, especially newer ones, do you have regrets. Any advice on someone looking to buy one for the first time? thank you

Penn-test drive as many times as you can. Hang out in the forum. Keep in mind that there will be more posts with issues because people without issues dont normally post. That is not to discount the issues. My R1S is almost two years and it's been trouble free. This is my first EV so I'm still on the board trying to learn and share what little I know. All the best.

First I've heard about a leaky tailgate (rear hatch) but looking it up, seems more of an early Gen 1 issue. So doubt it's something of concern.

Penn, mine is a June 2023 R1S. I keep it outside all day, every day, from -15 F to 102 F, in rain or snow or shine. I have had no leaking issues, and in fact, other than a self-caused bent tie rod on the front right, I have had virtually no problems at all. Take it with a grain of salt, however, since I did pay early purchase prices and got the full federal tax credit, but I could not be happier with the vehicle for the price I paid. I do recommend the Goodyear Wrangler option on 20s over any of the Pirelli tires, when and if you pull the trigger. I am averaging well over 2.5 m/kw on those with off-road, highway, and city driving.

I just leased 2025 RS1 at the end of March. It is my first EV. I wasn’t sure I wanted to commit to purchase and thought leasing was a good way for me to assess if EV was suitable for me. I have the 22” wheels which I prefer the look of. I also have the premier audio. I have had a few odd things with the proximity unlocking and locking with both my phone and the FOB. I think it is way more sensitive than I anticipated and would unlock the car randomly. Also had an issue with suspension. Despite these, I do love the car. I am in the LA area, so I have endless charging options available and will likely get a home charger since I will continue with the EV route. I admit I am not knowledgeable on all the technical aspects of the car. I leave that to my husband. I don’t have any regrets.

I am not sure how you are getting the impression that every single one leaks. Prior to taking delivery you could ask the service center to double check ahead of the appointment. They may or may not comply (pending their workload), but no one has ever said you couldn't ask. Further, you can also conduct your own test immediately after delivery. If it leaks, make service request immediately, or turn around and go right back to the service center.

Service capacity is limited as the company continues to grow—so don't expect to be in and out same day like any other well-established brands with 10~100+ years of operation. But warranty is warranty. And at risk of escalating to a legal liability, they have to do everything in their power to honor it, to the letter. So, whatever issue you have, while there is coverage, you have every right to pursue it. So whatever issue you have, the sooner you get the service request in the better.

For warranty repairs they will set you up with an [free] Enterprise rental or a loaner.
