Yes you can use a credit card.

It drives me nuts when people try to make this comparison. Rivian's deposit is $1000 while Tesla's and Ford's is $100. Not even close to the same level of commitment.

It's also startup vs household names, so kind of silly. I don't think anybody at Rivian feels bad about 30k with their first truck of the year award rapidly moving them towards household name status.

And still wondering if maybe that was the only option in January 2020. I've become very skeptical of "analysis" like Barclay's in recent months. I think I would have used my debit card if I'd had the option.

Even still, what value is this adding to the discourse? All three companies have already shared estimates of their total preorder numbers. We don’t need some crappy credit card analysis to tell us that.

The biggest driver is the announced starting prices. CT and Ford had $40k starting prices, and the meat of the population bell curve lives in that $40-$60k price range that Rivian isn't capturing. They still wouldn't have had the recognition, but if the R1T started at $40k, they would have multiples of the reservations they currently have.

So wait… 1000 carry the 2 subtract 5… isn’t 8% multiplied by 10 equal 80% of the total cash deposits for the cyber truck….

for a company that has no brand recognition, I think 80% is not half bad

Put in a reservation end of November. Use my BoA Visa.
There was an option for a bank transfer as well, but I get about 2.5% cash back.. so Visa. ;-)

8% of Tesla's roughly 3,000,000 cyber truck pre-orders would be 240,000. Last published number from Rivian was 55k pre-orders. So either there have been 185k more pre-orders in the last month, or the cancellation rate for Rivian has been extremely high....

Since when did CT triple to 3m??? According to that graph, they plateaued six months ago and the answer is never. They had 1.3m as of late November.

the first search result on google says 3 million, could be total, not including cancellations, which probably what Barclays represents.
