Sirius/XM stream 2 minutes delayed vs satellite

Back when I first got my R1S several years ago, I installed a third party Sirius/XM satellite antenna and FM modulator to listen to it via the car’s radio system. Works fine.

I finally tried the now built in streaming version of Sirius/XM and found that the Fox News station (channel 114), at least, streams with a 2 minute delay compared to same channel via satellite.

Anyone else notice an offset delay like this?

That is expected. You see the same delays when streaming over cable network or TiVo network clients.

Is TiVo still a thing? I remember that as the first digital recording service for cable TV back 20ish years ago.

Still out there probably not used much.

I can give you another example, if you use HD radio and can find a local AM station, if you play them at the same time the HD radio has a delay.

It’s by design so you can “rewind” what you’re listening to. It’s just a streaming service on the Rivian

I used to love Tivo. Man, people used to be amazed by that technology in 2000. Crazy how much has changed in 25 years when you think about it. I remember how big and heavy those boxes were. Probably about the weight of a dozen macbook airs, maybe more.
