Tesla FSD fails to see road debris, Model Y gets airtime

InsideEVs - 60 miles into a FSD Coast To Coast Challenge, FSD fails to see a metal ramp (apparenty a trailer or ATV loading ramp) in the road. It actually lifts/launches the car enough to send them flying out of their seats and spewing the passenger's drink.

"Looks like roadkill........ NO IT"S NOT!!!!!....... OWWWWWWWWW!"

The stupid part is the driver and passenger SAW IT in plenty of time and did not take control. Just another proof that whether it is Tesla, Rivian or some other brand, there is still no such thing as safe, foolproof autonomous driving.

When I was watching this, the skeptic in me wondered several times if THEY put the ramp there intentionally for content, not expecting the outcome to be what it was....

Two observations:

First, the Inside EVs story noted Tesla's statement that there were battery issues before the collision. Maybe self-serving on Tesla's part, since it allowed them to reclassify the $22K as a "warranty repair" for a known and prominent pro-Tesla influencer. But that's what Tesla said about the damage.

Second, wouldn't it have "put other people at risk" to have less information about the pros and cons of "FSD(supervised)"? Pretty sparse traffic on that highway. The risk to others (besides the occupants) may not have been large.

Just shows again that Tesla has a fundamental limit to their FSD by the moronic adherence to Musks doctrine that vision only is sufficient.
The two fanboys saw the obstacle and could have avoided it but they are true believers in the cult of Musk so they trashed their car.

This video is anecdotal proof that FSD is more dangerous than the average human driver because the people using it won't even take the minimum action to avoid a large object in the road. He just sat there waiting for FSD to move around it until it was too late. They have fully bought into the BS they have been fed.

I have a model Y with FSD. Several times recently I have had to rapidly take control when it saw old tire skid marks in the lane ahead and took violent evasive action. With other traffic around, the car’s maneuvers to avoid an imaginary obstacle were very dangerous. It is more stressful to use FSD than to drive myself. Still, I turn it on occasionally just to see how it does, under very close supervision.

That's a limitation of the "vision only" system. Radar or Lidar could easily sort out this false positive.
I have a Tesla with FSD capability and have used it during several free trials. It's difficult and tedious to supervise it and it randomly does stupid stuff so I don't use it.
