If I just had one garage I would use a key fab but If you have multiple garages/gates (home, office, loading dock, field etc.,) to navigate everyday having the car capable of interaction with them is important Tesla do it great as do the eTron and Taycan you can have up to 8 different door/gates all geo triggered programed. Identifying 4 or 5 garage doors on Alexs / Google is a pain and a security risk same for a remote plus most can only have 2 or 3 programs so you end up with multiple devices in your car and with no lockable glove box that's a home break-in waiting to happen... Its just software and a small transmitter and it should be in every Rivian it is 2022 after all.
you have a valid point, they should have it, and you have a situation where it may be a pain without it, at work we use a MyQ at each location we have multiple storage facilities with over 12 doors/gates, when my homelink module stopped working for the second time, i switched to it, it was a game changer for me, i have an area geofenced, i approach my gate opens, my garage door opens, the lights in my house turn on, my a/c lowers the temp.

I uses MyQ also at certain locations works great but requires interaction with your phone not ideal for multiple drivers either. There are many "work arounds" for sure but none as good as just having the feature in the car in the first place! For Rivian to omit the feature is a blunder IMHO. I have seen a few "New" auto makers forget to add it to their EV's but always include it in the end :)

some people said that they talked to CS and they said they were working on an alternative, for the sake of those who need it, i hope they come through. who knows maybe the R1's have similar hardware and they just need software.

If you genuinely want to understand "people's obsessions" with HomeLink and CP/AA I suggest you check out the relevant threads rather than rehashing it in this one. If you're just saying you don't understand because YOU don't care about these things then that's something different entirely.
not trying to rehash anything, just dont understand why those are what everyone are constantly complaining about when it comes to the cons of the vehicle, Some have even stated that are cancelling their orders over the lack of CP/AA to me that's just ridiculous. I feel like not having a volume knob should merit more complaints, its something thats way more practical and used maybe 100 times more than navigation.

There’s a volume knob directly under your thumb in the Rivian. You don't even have to take your hands off the wheel.

My level of patience for my delivery window just increased exponentially.
Me too, but not because I care that much about these glitches. It's "my better half" that would never let me hear the end of it! Fingers crossed these issues are resolved in the next 12-18 months. ;-)

I use CarPlay and HomeLink way more than the volume knob on my car. Just because you don't find value in these things doesn't mean they aren't valuable or important to others. Why else would the vast majority of manufacturers include these features in their vehicles?

Every vehicle I've owned since my '89 trans am has had volume control under my thumb, still it's always been way easier and convenient to turn a rotary knob on a radio.

Not only that but it's also accessible (and Accessible, as in ADA) to your front seat passenger.

I dont understand peoples obsession with homelink, I have been using google assistant/alexa for years to do what home link does plus much much more. all voice controlled or at the press of a button on my phone. and at a cost of just $30.

I even pull up in my Tesla and it even opens the door for me without voice control or even using my phone. and at the cost of free with my car purchase.

Same could be said about the volume knob, I mean ford, gm, and ram they all have recently revamped their center displays on all their trucks and new upcoming EV's they all have given up display space to add volume knobs.

but I really don't care for the the knobs or the lack there of them, I was just using that as an example.
and I never said AA/CP and homelink aren't valuable, if you ask 100 people its probably 50/50 on who uses and who doesn't. but its not the end of the world, a lot of people are making it seem like it is. I really think yes, they should be there, it sucks that it's not. I really think homelink is the miss here, there's currently nothing in place of it, with AA/CP you still have maps and nav which is the biggest use for them.
