I thought the same thing, you know some guy/g'vment is gonna find a way to exploit a hack on this. Then again, criminals could aways pick a lock/hotwire a car. That doesn't look very secure.
I see what you did there.Gen2 only - at gen2 launch this was called out as one of the key differences with gen1 (and implied to be there on day1… …but I digress).
You're missing that Rivian has decided to arbitrarily not add features that could be implemented into existing vehicles that are young enough to still be under warranty. That’s what I don’t get though
if it supports nfc, and uses existing wallet stuff why no option for support for gen 1, which has an nfc reader still?
iirc wassym said and then redacted way back in early gen 1 they were working on Apple Watch on gen 1 , but then they said they couldn’t because UWB so only gen 2 gets it
But my apple wallet isn’t uwb…
What am I missing here?
Will NFC fix bad PaaK performance? My understanding is it will work just like making a payment at a retailer: you hold your phone up to the door handle and it unlocks. Same as with the key card.I sure hope so. Fixing the poor PAAK experience is beyond overdue.
He's talking about UWB fixing PaaK. NFC will allow vehicle access, but won't really do anything for PaaK other than add another modality. Will NFC fix bad PaaK performance? PaaK unlocks the truck as you approach, and does not require you to hold anything up against the truck.
BTW - if you have bad PaaK performance, I would see if it could be something related to your phone. It could be the truck, but often it is the phone that is the issue. PaaK on my truck is practically perfect.
Maybe it will be a Christmas giftWhere is texting that was supposed to be delivered in 2025…
It's not. Common complaint on all the forums. I''ve had 3 different iphones. Tesla works flawlessly every time. For my Rivian, I'm frequently left waiting at the door, being forced to pull my phone out of my pocket to get in (as many others report). I thought this was intended to fix that performance, if not, then they need to. It's the worst PAAK I've ever had on any vehicle. (I also get the same garbage performance with the key fob). I feel ike my gen1 may have actually been a bit better, but it wasn't good either. Will NFC fix bad PaaK performance? You can add my PAAK experience to the practically perfect list. There were problems very early on but were addressed with updates. It's not. Common complaint on all the forums. Your truck must be an anomaly, because practically perfect is not a description I've seen for Rivian PAAK before.
Not sure why they can't produce reliable performance for everyone like Tesla. and many other car brands. This complaint resurfaces constantly on the Rivian subreddit. I've just learned to live with it - but it's another reason I won't be purchasing another Rivian until serious improvements are made in QA, for both the vehicles and software, across the board. You can add my PAAK experience to the practically perfect list.
