Too bad it won’t stop for a school bus stop sign, right pamalabama
jabanks32

sunydrm?
Fsd v14 is better than Waymo at stopping for school buses. Crazy reaction time

there was a video I saw where the car caught a school bus hidden by 3 cars that blew past on a 4 lane highway. It was not divided and the car caught it and slammed on the brakes.

it was riding in the very right lane far from the bus but you legally have to stop

I guess I had some amount of hope that Rivian would focus its efforts on making excellent driving vehicles, not trying to compete with Tesla with a different form factor. I am so uninterested in whatever an “ai defined vehicle” is.

"Skate to where the puck is going" is a famous quote, often attributed to hockey legend Wayne Gretzky (but actually from his father, Walter), meaning to anticipate future outcomes, not just react to current situations, emphasizing proactivity, foresight, and strategic positioning for success in business, technology, and life. It's about playing ahead of the play, investing in emerging trends (like AI), and creating future opportunities instead of being stuck in the present moment.

Core Meaning & Application:
  • Proactive vs. Reactive: Don't just deal with what's in front of you; anticipate where the action will be next.
  • Foresight: A great player (or leader) sees the entire field and positions themselves for the next play, not just the current one.
  • Innovation: In business, this means adopting new tech (like AI) or strategies before they become mainstream, allowing for a competitive edge.
Strategic Positioning: It's about putting yourself in the best place for future success, even if it means moving away from familiar or current routines.

FSD v14 is 1.5 years ahead of v13 technology. It has a 10x parameter increase. It reacts faster and sees further. Previous fsd builds were bottlenecked by Hw3 tech.

I wear cowboy boots. I fix shit myself with tools. I hold the door for ladies and say “thank you mam”. I don’t hire anyone to cut my lawn, blow my leaves, or shovel my drive. And I certainly don’t wear loafers while my self-driving car takes me out for a pumpkin spice anything.

Just stop pamalabama jabanks32 sunydrm. It’s the same BS sales pitch everyone has heard a million times before. Including for HW3.

I’ve never met you, but I’ve seen enough online to *KNOW* you love the pumpkin spice, and probably refer to it as p-spice on a tuesday afternoon.

PS: not citing sources, some things just don’t need them.

I die a little every time something new comes out that I can’t get in my R1T, but then I remember I live in the matrix and all is good.

RJ just killed off R1. R2 is gen 3 including LiDAR and Rivian developed AI chip.

This is exactly the reason holding onto EVs for more than 3~5 yrs is just like computers - outdated.

Just as I've said before these vehicles are laptop with wheels and cannot place ICE paradigm onto EVs.
And yet I still plan to keep my R2 for 8-10 years.

I don't always need the newest and greatest thing. Some third world countries are good examples of it, skipping whole segments of technology evolution to get the latest at honestly a cheaper cost without spending all the money to constantly upgrade. Heck some third world counties have better EV adoption than first world countries. I am happy to get my R2, wait while things improve massively in the mean time and get it when Automous driving maybe having figured itself out, solid state or salt batteries become a thing and EVs have worked out some more kinks.

Gotta love how they use Gen1 adopters for data collection and then leave us behind with nothing to show for it but a high-latency Siri clone as consolation.

Expected, and yet still disappointing. Bring back Compass Yellow and I might consider upgrading.
Honestly, what do you expect them to do? As their first vehicle, they had a high cost per vehicle as they had no economy of scale. It was already expensive as they had to raise the price than initially estimaded and received major backlash for it. There was no way they would be able to future proof it with Lidar and their supply chain back then was already difficult as they weren't getting a good price on parts as a new automaker yet to prove themselves. Without the hardware, what they wanted to accomplish just isn't possible. Maybe they thought it was when they first made the promise, but in the now reality, it just isn't possible. Since the R1 launch, Rivian has become a lot more careful about their promises, keeping things close to their chest unless they can confirm with certainty about the timeline and costs. I don't think they left R1 behind on purpose but were limited what they could do with the hardware. I think they learned a lot from the Gen 1, including the limits of their own capabilities of what can actually be accomplished and what can be said. It sucks for R1 owners who had those promises, but I think Rivian was stuck with the position they were in at the time. Unless there is a recall to change all the wiring, ECU, and sensor equipment, it just isn't possible to add more autonomy.

As someone once said (might have been Marquis Brown) buy what is available today, not what is promised in the future.
