As part of my ongoing research to figure out how to get the most juice out of the battery when it's parked unplugged for a week, I'm going to test putting it in shipping mode tonight. Anything I should know about in advance? Will I be able to get out of it pretty quickly? I am told yes. I plan to travel tomorrow so I wanted to make sure it won't complicate my travel plans.

My car is a 2026 R1S dual motor with standard battery.

Thanks for any advice/warnings/feedback

Happy holidays!

I hope you don't have a trip planned for tomorrow.

You might loose remote access to things such as battery level . Worth checking while it’s in shipping mode.
I just leave mine plugged into a charger and manage it remotely, giving it a bit of a charge every few days. Worked great for me when we were in another country for a month.

I travel frequently for work for 2-3 weeks at a time and use shipping mode regulary. Easy to get in/out of. I lost about 1-2% battery per day, which is pretty normal. Other things that may help is turning off bluetooth. I have also used service mode which seemed to conserve battery better but I was not able to check on the vehicle remotely while in that mode.

Airport is two hours away. And the drain in this battery is not tiny: 20 mi per night. I have another thread on that subject only.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. So many questions:

Do you turn off Bluetooth from the car or from the phone app?
Can you check on the vehicle in shipping mode? I thought the shipping mode shut down all the connectivity.

From what you're saying, it sounds like service mode shuts more of the functions down. Is it safe to leave the car in a public garage in service mode?

Thanks!

I turn off BT in the car. I also used to have the app widget on my screensaver on my phone but learned that it can keep the vehicle awake, wasting battery, so, I removed the widget and that made a difference. Putting it in shipping mode does not appear to turn off BT since I could still wake the vehicle by opening my app, which I now do less when traveling. I park at home when I travel so I cannot comment on the "safety" of keeping it in service mode.

Gotcha. I'll remove the widgets.

So, if you turn off Bluetooth from the car, did the app connect to it via cellular.

I don’t think that is an issue any longer. I have the widget on my iPhone and my G1 R1S goes to sleep.

20 miles a night means your car is broken. That's not usual or typical. Shipping mode would only be a temporary solution, but if there is something wrong with your car don't expect miracles from shipping mode. It would still be an interesting data point to find out how shipping mode affects things on your vehicle. But more important is finding the cause of the drain and eliminating your own actions as a possibility.

I took the car in a couple of wells ago. They say the percentage drop is 4% per night which, in their opinion, is normal.

I tried shipping mode last night. It dropped only 1% --but that equaled 20 miles of range. So I don't get it.

4% a night is not normal, and it really annoys me they are telling people that. 1-2% is normal, and even that is too high IMO.
