Hi friends. I got sick of fighting with Emby/Jellyfish/etc for casting IPTV to Rivian so I made my own. I've been test driving it for a while and 90% of the quirks seem to be ironed out. For me it has worked *much* better than Disney, HBOMax, Hulu, etc.

Adding this as a followup post: one thing I (think I) learned from testing this is that Rivian player does not like >1080p for casting. If youre having trouble with other apps, try lowering the res/code rate.

Any chance of releasing this as a docker container? Emby's premium licensing requirements for IPTV is ridiculous.

Timeout, why are you not just using Plex to cast and then accessing the hd homerun through the sexy Plex channel guide?

Plex doesnt have great support for IPTV and zero support for xtream API.

I tried to do this. Let me know if it works?

Dummy here.

I have both a HD Homerun tuner and Plex. Can you help me out with how I can stream either of these to my R1? Sorry to bring you back to basics, but I think a lot of us have no idea how you managed this.

So, I have Plex running on a Synology DS918+ and a 4 tuner HD homerun on the network. The hd homerun is detected and setup in Plex as a liveTV source with an assigned channel guide. Content on the hd homerun (liveTV/OTA) is played from Plex as a media source.

Serious question, is this not how people use the hd homerun?

That's how I do it. I can watch HD Homerun channels directly using the HD HR app in Roku, or the Plex Roku app. Of course Plex can also stream my recorded content and pictures. I can stream both outside my home network but I have little need to do that. I am interested if there is a way to stream to my R1.

Can't you just cast Plex to the Rivian while you are playing live TV content recorded by the hd homerun? I'm talking about the actual Plex app, not the trash Roku one.

Ah! That's what you are doing. I have not tried to cast anything to the Rivian yet.

The "Roku app" I was referring to is my Roku TV, which does have a Plex app. It works pretty well - better than the HD Homerun app on the TV. I use Plex for recording HD Homerun broadcast TV anyway.

Yes you can stream to your R1 via chromecast. This requires an HTTPS host. And even then I found plex (and basically all apps) to be unstable. So thats why I wrote https://github.com/jvdillon/netv. Since I manage the transcoding I could dial it in for R1 casting.

Now that Ive done this project I now know what trips R1 up. It barfs on anything >1080 and may even have a bitrate limit. (I tuned netv defaults to always work with r1)

netv is more useful for streaming iptv btw. if you just have hdhomerun youre probably better off with plex. netv is invariably going to have a higher learning curve because its not a company. (Though if you wanted to turn it into a company, let me know.)

Yeah, I definitely appreciate your hard work. Certainly requires an above average understanding of involved components.

But worst case scenario, any Plex user can either role the dice on stability as you said, or transcode down to 1080p if their hardware supports it

Not for IPTV. IPTV requires an on-the-fly transcoding mechanism. For content you "own" yes.
