Hi Folks,

Long story I’ll post about in a few weeks, but it looks like I’ll be replacing my Dual Standard R1T with a Dual Max R1T. With some weird build decision, they don’t offer the Max pack with the (honestly great) 20” AS/AT wheels the standard pack comes with designed by Brian here on the forums.

So, given I live in rural Maine and have heard the stock perelli 22s aren’t great (wife’s LE R1S has the Michelin defender ltx on 22’s and still not as planted as I like for our gravel roads and a planned big national parks trip with the kids in June), I opted for the closest thing, the 20” AT’s.

I’m curious if anyone has this setup can tell me about real world range?

I’m mostly wondering if there’s truly a 50 mile hit between the 22” sport perelli’s (420) and the 20” AT’s (370), since the standard (and large) pack has a much smaller delta between the 20” and 22” wheels for range (256 v. 270 and 309 v. 330).

Thanks for any insight!

Interesting to hear you say that. I also prefer the look and function of the 20” AS/AT that come on the standard. Considered swapping that setup with my 21” on our gen 1 R1T. Watching this thread.

The Goodyear AS tires are more efficient than the Pirelli AT tires. That is the difference you noticed and why Rivian reports a bigger range hit with the Pirelli tires.

This is what I suspected, and I’m trying to see if I can just get those on my max pack. Baffling to me that these were engineered for Rivian and efficiency, and are only offered on the standard pack.

I agree. It seems like a simple thing to offer all the wheel/tire combos on all the models. Maybe they are trying to keep the production process from getting too complex.

BTW - you can buy the Rivian specific Goodyear AS tires from Tire Rack or Discount Tire.

‘26 Max. I had to buy the 20” AS wheel and tire set from the gear shop and have our SC swap them for the 22” OEM Range, which they left in bags in the 2nd row/trunk. They wouldn’t swap as we were buying. Only after delivery.

On range, big hit. Regularly went from 2.5~ to 1.5~ around town. Slightly worse than that on short drives, slightly better on highway. Based on RivRoamer, we get 248mi right now on a full charge in 30-40F temps with our driving habits.

Is it possible there are other factors that impacted your range besides the tires? I am surprised you took that much of a hit. Per Rivian EPA range specs, those wheels are only 4% less efficient than the 22" wheels. I am sure the testing Rivian did was well controlled.

Giving a shout out to @B Digs - he was one of the designers of the Goodyear tire, so his opinions carry a lot of weight. (Of course with a little bias, LOL. I am sure he is proud of what he helped create.)

As he said, those are the tires.

Hi, happy New Year to all.

Yes, those are the Goodyear tires designed specifically for Rivian.

It’s definitely worth asking Rivian if they can swap the Goodyear tires onto a Max Pack configuration.

Keep us in the loop. Hopefully, it works out.
Unfortunately, Rivian won’t swap them, so I plan to move forward with the AT’s so that I at least have 20” wheels and will buy the 20” Goodyear’s Brian helped design, and swap them on when the winter is over, in order to make comparisons.

Very confused as to why this is not something offered with all packs (the complication seems pretty minimal operationally in contrast to other changes you can customize), and I am wondering about why @brandoncole you had such severe range loss. I don’t have a direct comparison, but I did have my standard Gen2 Dual R1T with these tires for over a year and right at 20,000 miles with a winter average of ~1.9 and a summer average of about ~2.55 with a mix of local and highway driving.

Thanks Mike!

I’m very proud of this tire! It was my favorite project to work on in the 26 years I’ve been at Goodyear. I love working with Rivian’s design team, everything Rivian stands for, and the impressive performance of their vehicles. I’m very happy to be a Rivian customer. I am biased (pun intended), but I thoroughly enjoy driving a R1T with the bespoke Goodyear tires.

Bummer. Maybe you can sell the gently used tires when the time comes.

Don’t think so. Range hit was immediate. Has gotten worse as it’s gotten colder. ‘26 Dual Max Perf. Mostly on Standard with auto off. Tires are between 47-50 psi. Only addition that might be affecting it is added mudflaps, but those aren’t large and are mostly in the wheel wells.

However, comfort is unmatched and they handle inclement weather like a boss so it’s worth whatever we lose in efficiency.
