22" Scorpion tires are so fragile

3rd puncture in less than 12k miles. This one was ridiculous though. A simple HVAC screw. Probably not even a 1/4" long. Really beginning to dislike these tires.

Luckily the air suspension and compressor makes repairs easy. Back on the road in 10 minutes after repair with my Neely kit.

Yeah the stock tires suck. The Pirellis on my wife's i4M50 just failed after 14K miles as well, so it's not only Rivian. The tires that come with a new car are always made worse than buying that tire outright but it seems like Pirelli is the worst at making tires.

Pirellis in my opinion suck ass. I had 5 punctures in 30,000 kms before finally retiring them. Since then I've put just over 22,000 km's on my Nokian nAT's and not a hint of a pressure drop. I've been on far worse sharp Rocky terrain as well.

I had the 119's on my T and my S has the 115's. Great tire.

Thanks. Are you seeing any range decrease from the 119s vs the stock 22 Scorpions? Or any difference between the 115s and the 119s?

We are full loaded on our frequent road trips. Packed to the gills including frunk, under storage, floor boards and a fully stuffed 100 quart car fridge. Two adults and a lab. Lots of heavy contraband including whiskey and wine. I'm guessing we'd be foolish to get the 115s? Once the Buffalo, WY Supercharger goes online we plan to pull our 28' travel trailer to the Big Horns with the R1S. That's a 600lb+ tongue weight.

I'm not concerned about range loss for my wife's commute. Our TOU rates are damn near free. But range loss at interstates speeds is something I'm concerned about. It's just a matter of time before these Scorpions leave us stranded in the middle of nowhere.

I have the stock Scorpion 20" All-terrain and already had two tires puncture or tear in 12k miles. Now one of the replacements is leaking (I think Rivian installed on rim incorrectly). Been driving and parking in NYC for thirty years and never tore a sidewall parallel parking on any of my cars until now...and two of them!! Even though my evidence is circumstantial I'd have to agree these tires suck. Also the all-terrains make the interior noise on the highway so much worse than the originals!

You would not be foolish to get the 115's as you'll be over axle capacity before you hit tire capacity with 115's. Keep in mind Rivian initially shipped with 115's, and they are plenty for the rated load capacity of Rivian. The 119's are going to last longer, there is simply more tire. The range is reduced slightly, but not enough to make a big difference. Probably .1 mi/kWh drop. The 115's have no drop.

Biggest factor is the cost. The 115's are a still an EV specific tire with a 50K mile rating and are 350ish each. The 119's are 550ish each. Keep in mind that to get the extra load capacity out of 119's you need to run them at 70/80 psi and IDK if that will trip the TPMS in the Rivian, I never tried doing it.

The tread is much rougher on the defenders and mine cause what sounds like a little vibration noise/ tire noise in the suspension that I didn't have with the 22 scorpions. Not bad but noticeable, I have the trimax R1T. I have no doubt these will last longer, the tread is much deeper on the defenders. With the perellis it took 15% or less each way and with the defenders 18-20% each way depending on wind , temp., etc. I have 2500 miles on the defenders.

Thank you. I can get the 119s at Discount Tire in Billings for $1,814 total. They have the pucks but will not install the 115s. Now I just need to decide if I will ride out these Scorpions. Getting new tires at 12k miles hurts. Our Lightning's General Crappers failed at 16k miles.

Yikes. Not what I was hoping to hear. Is that trip highway or stop and go? Not sure I can handle a 20% drop in highway range.

Highway. A two lane at about 50 mph for about 10 miles and 4 lane for about 32 miles at 72 mph. It is hilly but not much overall elevation change. I understand what people are saying about the perellis and don’t necessarily disagree with some of it, but having now used both, I personally would not buy the Michelin‘s again after the decreasing range and the noise in the suspension (which I believe is because of the rougher tread). I do believe the Michelin‘s will get quite a bit more miles out of them, and they are definitely a more rugged tread that will do better in bad weather, but to me it’s not worth the trade-off. Others may disagree and I respect that.

One other thing I will say is I got 29,000 miles out of my Perelli‘s. Where I know a lot of people are getting a lot less whether that is more aggressive driving or whatever I don’t know but that’s what I got.

20% range hit just doesn't make sense. I had the Defenders installed on our '22 Lightning Lariat ER and didn't notice any range hit. Now the Lightning was a 20" 116 tire. The Defenders weighted 5lbs more than than the stock General Grabbers. The Defenders on the Lightning were the best tires I've had.

So for the R1S with 22" rims the Defender (119s) weight just under 10lbs more per tire than the Pirelli MS. But you can run the pressures much higher.
