First R2 validation build vehicle rolls off the production line!

I think it was January to September of 2021. They were validating 3 different models on a much more complicated build. The R2 should be much quicker, it is only 1 model with significant attention paid to ease of assembly. I do not see any issues starting deliveries by May or June at this point.

Not only is it just 1 model, it also has benefit of everything they learned from manufacturing R1T, R1S and EDV at the same time. Plus, whatever input they got from working with Munro Associates.

And as RJ said, they will build a few hundred of these validation units before production actually start. And I maintain my prediction, Spring for that launch event and sales start.

This is exciting to see. I was just thinking this week there must have been some kind of delay and we would not see The R2 till May of June. I would have thought they would have released more info on the R2 by now. We still do not know so much like Motor HP and torque and efficiency. Batteries sizes. what colors will be offered. I would have thought they would know this info some time ago. Curious why they still have not released this info.

R2 unveil was in March 2024 and news of R2 expansion starting construction came in Nov 2024. Depending on when Rivian starts deliveries, it will be interesting to see how much time they took from these two events. Seems like it will be about 26 months from launch, which is really not that bad, especially considering they built the factory! Kudos to the team!

Rivian got a lot of shit for releasing the R1 configurator years before it was available due to COVID. My thought is that Rivian is going to release the specs along with the launch date, so people can immediately start getting delivery.

My prediction is the configurator will be almost as simple as the one for the new Chevy Bolt for some time... 2 or maybe 3 trim options. Everything else is just linking accessories from the Gear shop. Or buy from inventory.

Keep the manufacturing process simple and maybe do mostly higher margin trims at first.

Agree. They will have learnt a loads from the R1 release and will be keen not to make the same mistakes, or at least over promise and then under-deliver. They're established now versus back in 2022. Only downside risk to going too soon and then having to roll back.

May or June is not a delay. They said first half of 2026. Those months are included.
