Wow, I was playing around on the shop to see what pre-owned popped up, and I didn’t realize any of this color combo was ever actually produced. Wonder how many Christmas R1T’s exist? Haha

I remember when I was waiting for a red canyon quad to pop up with the black all terrain wheels. I had set up alerts for it, and was alerted on my way to work. I swerved over 4 lanes, and stopped on the shoulder to order it. Until I saw that it was that interior combo... Ugh

It was possible to get any combo of interior and exterior color for a while.

Then they removed certain combinations. Then Rivian Yellow went away completely.

I knew I should have gotten Rivian Yellow + Forest Edge with Bright 20" wheels. Would have had a one-of-a-kind!

I was creating my own "color combination chart" of Rivian deliveries from the "Track your delivered vehicle" thread for a while. Last I updated it was at 781 lines. At that point, Forest Edge was on only 5.7% (2 of 25) Red Canyon's tracked.

so this is actually why I started the thread, besides being a distraction from reality at the moment.

since I bought my R1T 18 months ago, I have seen Rivian slowly reduce combination options for operational efficiency gains, and I am wondering where we’ll see this go, and how people feel about it.

for instance, I also noted today that the new bronze super sports only come with borealis exterior, and you can’t get the dune graphite with borealis. You can also only get slate sky interior with midnight, storm blue and like one other exterior paint. Then of course there’s the inability to get the Goodyear 20” wheels from the standard pack on any other configuration.

I am all for efficiency, but I do think they will need to consider flexibility for the R1 line once R2 (and 3) arrive. Many of the current adopters likely don’t need as big a vehicle as the R1, but were bought into the brand and quality of the vehicle, and the overall potential consumer pool is pretty finite for large luxury ish EV trucks. At the price and with model options for space and function, reducing customization feels like both an operational need for growth, but also a potential deterrent to customer acquisition in the next 1-2 years. Will be interesting to see where they go with this.

Yeah, it's kind of sad that they don't allow the "bolt on after" parts to be sold with different vehicles (other than maybe scarcity - perhaps the bronze wheels are tougher for them, so they limit it to colors they know will be low-production?) Interior/Exterior combos I can understand for mass production sake, but when they were pretty much all still "custom builds" I don't get why they removed choice. And especially not for the low-volume options that will all be custom builds anyway.

The Franklin TN SC has a RC/FE R1T loaner they’ve named “Father Christmas”. I put 1k miles on him one week when my truck went in for service right before we had a road trip, plus the SC is ~300 r/t for me anyway. The combo really isn’t as bad as it sounds since FE tends toward gray rather than outright “green”. We did like the FE interior enough that we tracked down a white/FE R1S for my wife. It’s a great combo.

Oh yeah, FE is great, really wish they would bring it back or at least a brown interior of some kind. I stick with black because the white is not for me and even the slate sky feels a bit fancy California vibe to me lol
