When did MUTE become PAUSE?

If I want to mute the sound of a song, how do I do that? Every time I try, it just pauses it.

Roll the thumb wheel. Volume at 0 = mute. The center button has always paused (or power for the radio).

Thanks! That has to be from a recent update. The scroll wheel also works now. Before when I scrolled all the way down, it would just pause the music. Now it silences the audio but the track keeps playing like it should! Same with the media app on the main display.

I've never had a vehicle that had on-wheel controls for media playback that had a mute button. It's always been play/pause. Especially if it's a multi-function button like in a Rivian or Tesla.

For sure this isn't new behavior in our Rivians - the left scroll wheel button has always been play/pause for media since I got my truck in Feb 2024.

It depends what you're listening it. If it's the radio, or something that cannot be paused, it acts as a mute button. If it's streaming music or bluetooth (which can be paused), it pauses it.
