Would any owners of QuadMax care to share their observations? Trying to decide about trading up from a ‘22 Quad . TIA

I can sum up my ownership experience with two words:
Friggin‘ awesome.

This thing pulls so hard it will make you giggle and scare the cr-p out of your passengers.
Passing trucks on a two-lane highway is like a video game.
Climbing steep mountains is effortless and you will pass everyone.
It‘s also very smooth and quiet - 85mph feels no different than 25mph.

Yes you have a range hit, but you don’t buy this for range (max is around 350 in Conserve).

I "upgraded" my LE Quad to a Gen 2 Quad in late December. Here' s a quick summary of my observations about the differences between Gen 1 and Gen 2 Quads, and a few other thoughts.

Door handles, prefer Gen 1, much has been said about this in other threads. Gen 2 door handles are a downgrade both inside and out.

Suspension: the “click” is gone; otherwise, I personally can’t tell the difference between Gen 1 and Gen 2. I have no problems or complaints with the suspension in either build.

Horsepower, torque, charging, range, charge port, etc. Certainly no complaints with Gen 1 or Gen 2, just not clear there’s much of an “upgrade” here either.

Build quality, fit and finish, road noise: This was the area I was genuinely disappointed about. I was expecting the fit and finish of the Gen 2 Quad to be on par with the legacy auto makers, and instead It’s on par with Tesla. My Gen 2 Quad has several misaligned panels. The most severe is that one of the doors shows a fairly large and blatantly obvious gap when closed. Standing outside the vehicle, it’s easily mistaken for a door not fully closed. It was so blatantly obvious on pickup that I actually lost some of my respect for the company for trying to slip it past me on delivery. I considered refusing to take delivery, but decided against it. (I have an appointment this week for them to fix it.)

I was also extremely disappointed with the road noise. Not that Rivian told me anything about road noise, but from reading other reviews, I expected substantially reduced road noise, and that wasn't the case. (I am asking the service center to take a look next week when I drop it off for the door alignment fix.) Road noise on my Gen 1 Quad to Gen 2 Quad, no improvement noticed.

Universal Hands Free, cameras: If there’s a reason to upgrade from Gen 1 to Gen 2, this may be it. Nothing specific to the Quad, and I don’t have anything to add that hasn’t already been said.
Apple Car Keys: The other reason to upgrade from Gen 1 to Gen 2. I didn’t have too many issues with the Bluetooth phone keys, but bos is this an improvement? However, it’s nothing specific to the Quad, and I don’t have anything to add that hasn’t already been said.

Launch Mode, kick-turn: Pretty cool, fun, not clear if it’s “worth an upgrade.” I never once worried that my LE Quad was underpowered.

Bottom line, final thought: I love the Rivian R1S. It’s an amazing vehicle. We have two kids, and have taken it on many road trips. Would I buy the Rivian R1S again? Absolutely, no hesitation. Would I “upgrade” my awesome Gen 1 Quad to a Gen 2 Quad.... Maybe. Would I be just as happy with a Tri or a Dual? Probably yes. The Quad is special because you don’t see many like it. I'm glad I have it, although for my next "upgrade", hopefully many years from now, I might take it down a tier.

I am very happy with it. Only issue I've had is a rattle has developed in the passenger door. Otherwise (at least in my opinion) a substantial upgrade from my 22 qm le r1t.

I have no comparison to the first generation and absolutely love my 2026 quad max. No real issues. No service in the first six months.

Must say unless I was having issues with my G1 I would be inclined to keep it for at least 8-10 years.

Of course if money is easy by all means go for it. Don't let this put you in a pinch.

I did just that in Fall . the 26 QM Max G2, to me, was worth every penny in many many areas. the wider rear tires and added torque as well as much smoother tighter suspension. yes a few fit and finish alignments needed small adjusts. the 22 "rode on rails" but when you do very small RAD adjustments the 26 is amazing. it feels like a mid engine sports car. lower the ht-soften the roll stiffness- increase acceration and put bia on wheels to rear.

only item i say was not great was moving from Meridian to the Premium sound, as many have noted :( BuTTTT 3 hr simple add of a true subwoofer as seen on Soonish site/video and hello JL Audio! I now say Meridian what? ;)

Is it a lot of $$$ ? yes no doubt. but to me the ride is worth it. if in northern Ca go up 101 from SF and take 128 West to Mendocino and make sure the passengers are well strapped down!

go for it.

The comparisons in the replies are mostly between either a Gen 1 LE Quad or a 2022 Quad (maybe the same thing) and a Gen 2 quad. Where Gen 2 improvements are noted, most focus on suspension and ride. I have a late VIN 2023 R1S Quad, which I understand has some of the later Gen 2 suspension bits. I can't compare my experience with a Gen 2 Quad because I don't have one, but I find the ride and handling in my 2023 to be very good to excellent, and I have none of the suspension complaints I've read about on this forum over the past few years. Service calls have been required only for the factory recommendations. The acceleration is fantastic, and there are very few cars/trucks/sports cars that I can't blow off. I plan to keep my 2023 indefinitely, maybe supplemented by an R2. A really great vehicle.

I had a 22 R1T and just bought a 26 R1T quad max. I would consider it an evolution. No massive leaps forward anywhere (except perhaps autonomy and the tonneau cover) but lots of step improvements. It’s a better vehicle, but whether it’s worth it or not largely depends on your financial situation. If you can comfortably write a check for the car without any heartburn, do it. If you have to finance it, I would personally stick with the gen 1. I’m very happy with mine.

Just wanted to post an update about my door panel for anyone who cares either now or in the future. Drop off on day 1; day 2 it was fixed and ready for pickup. No more major fit and finish issues, so I’m very happy once again.
