Thank you for the very thoughtful and factual post. The one negative that stood out to me is exactly what I felt on my R2 test drive — the R2 seats are not as comfortable as my R1. I'm not sure why, but I think it has something to do with a difference in width — the R2 seats are narrower than...
Has anyone physically measured the width of the seat and back of the R2 driver's seat? There is nothing online except the total interior width. For reference, my R1S seat measures 20" wide for both the seat bottom and back.
Can anyone else comment on the seat comfort of R2 vs. R1? It's the one thing that keeps nagging me after my test drive. My R1 is very comfortable always. As I said in my original post, I could not get the R2 seats adjusted to feel the same as the R1.
Yesterday I had an R2 for a 30-minute test drive. I own an R1S, so the controls were familiar. They handed me the fob, showed me the route, and gave me the car. I drove to the Rivian space in my R1, so it was an opportunity to make an immediate comparison between the two models. The R2 is...
I have a late VIN 2023 R1S, which I believe got some of the then forthcoming Gen 2 suspension bits. It handles and tracks extremely well. With 20k miles on the OEM Pirellis, I probably notice more road imperfections than with the Nokias that I intend to buy. But otherwise, all good.
The time window, or even the date, may not mean much if your uploaded build choices included an exterior or interior option that won't be available until later this year — August for the light interior, according to what I saw. That choice showed that it was unavailable, but I think it let me...
The simple answer to that dilemma is to lease for a short term (2-3 years) and either buy it out of the lease at the end, or lease/buy a new one with higher tech if it is that much better.
Whether to buy an extended warranty at the new-car dealership depends on how likely you are to keep the vehicle beyond the manufacturer's warranty. I've been offered extended warranties right up to the last day of the manufacturer's warranty, so unless you know for sure at the time of purchase...
My firm rule when buying any new vehicle is to say "no" to every sales pitch from the dealer's finance office guy — including any extra or extended warranties. Ten or more years ago, I bought a new Porsche with really nice wheels. Usually, I have any curb rash on my vehicles machined out at a...
We were at the Palo Alto block party yesterday. I talked with several of the hosts. No one could confirm that the Coastal Cloud interior, whenever it comes, will be available in the LE package. Unfortunately, a black interior in our climate would be a deal breaker.
We were at the Palo Alto block party yesterday. Talked to several hosts. None could confirm that Coastal Cloud, when it comes, will be available in the launch edition package. Black interior is a deal breaker for me, I’m afraid. If the LE interior only comes in black, I’ll wait to see what comes...
In conserve mode, I have occasionally experienced pronounced torque steer when accelerating out of a curve or changing lanes. Is this to be expected in FWD, or is it time to call the SC?
So the light interior is shown on the R2 in this video, but I hear that it won't be offered in the LE? Why are they showing it if it isn't available? Doesn't make sense.
I guess it depends on how the LE is configured at that price. If it looks and feels like an R1S in terms of quality of materials and interior design, the price seems right.
There’s Gen R1S and Gen 2. What we have is a very late VIN 2023 which I think fills any suspension gaps. It is my understanding that Rivian used some of the Gen 2 suspension bits in late VIN 2023’s. Our car handles and rides extremely well and on 22’s.
There will always be a market for a higher-end, larger SUV from Rivian. Look at the other big SUVs that are even bigger and just as expensive--Escalade, for example, that continue to sell well. Those big ICE vehicles will gradually go EV. Also, there is no reason the production economies Rivian...
