Roll away risk and clunky sound from brakes/tires

Wanted to check with fellow owners here on couple of issues and how to resolve them.

1. Parked the Rivian on a not so steep driveway and the car started to roll away, couple of times. Assuming the R1 doesn't have a traditional hand brake - any quick resolves? I did get couple of notifications on my driveway as well that there is a roll away risk - no ice or snow underneath this time, just asphalt driveway.

2. During winter time mostly, there is a pretty evident clunk sound when the car starts moving the first time. Think it comes from the brakes/tire?

3. Is there a way to warm up the battery without turning on the climate?

4. Thinking of switching from the 21inch Pirellis to the 20inch Goodyear AT tires. Though not super off-road, looks like it might serve my needs. Range is my concern since road trips are a priority and the 21inch has been pretty good for me. 2.49kwh efficiency for me so far with 20k miles on.

1. That is unusual. Just to confirm, was the Rivian fully shifted into Park?
2. The clunk on initial movement—especially in colder weather—does sound brake related and isn’t uncommon, but it’s still worth flagging. For items 1 and 2, I’d recommend reaching out to the Rivian Service team for their input and guidance.
3. The battery management system should protect the pack automatically. The vehicle will warm the battery as needed while driving. Active preconditioning mainly matters for fast charging, and that will occur if you set a DC fast charger as your navigation destination.
4. The Goodyear Territory ATs sound like a solid choice for your use case. There’s good data and positive feedback in this thread, including comparisons when switching from the 21" OE tires to the 20" Goodyears:

1. Never had the roll away issue last winter. It was this winter, with temps being sub zero. But one time I had to move quickly from behind the vehicle since it started to slip. But getting the notification even when on dry and normal surface is a bit worrying.

3. So assuming there is no way to warm up the battery without turning climate on - correct?

1. That is strange. Could be due to the cold temps, but tough to say.

Were you parked on snow or ice? I've had mine slide down the driveway when parked on a bunch of snow. And I get the warning all the time parked on a gradient and in the cold weather.

Something seems awry here. I've parked on very steep sections off-road and the truck never rolled at all. I would consult service.

I've been told this is "normal", however the degree to which the Rivian does it, well, it's absurdly loud and aggressive. I'm in Buffalo and get a ton of water/salt on the undercarriage on a regular basis this time of year, and it's BAD. However, in the summer when it's drier and less salt, it almost completely goes away. It's the brake pads "fusing" to the brake rotors while parked for long periods of time.

3. Is there a way to warm up the battery without turning on the climate?

I have the 20in Goodyear AT's. Lifetime average for me is 2.1mi/kWh. The first 24k miles were on the Pirelli AT's, then I moved to the Goodyears and have about 7,500mi on them. The Goodyears are going to be louder than your 21's, but they will provide more traction in snow. Again, Buffalo resident here and I've had these in over 20in of fresh snow without an issue. Traction isn't great at that depth, but on packed streets that have had a plow pass they're pretty good. Nothing beats a winter tire, but these are a decent "all arounder" IMO.

On ice and slippery snow both times at places other than my home. But my driveway had none, was just winter and gave me the warning. I have a very low incline.

thanks for the feedback. I am guessing the same too - ice or salt on the brakes or tires and it breaks when it starts moving.
