I'm trading in my 10K miles R1T Tri Max, Storm Blue, slate Sky/walnut wood, 22" Range, with front ppf and EV Sportline running boards for an R1S Borealis Quad on Tuesday. Rivian is giving me $75K for the trade. With the 6% trade in tax credit it would be close to $80K. $85K is a little on the high side.
Rivian is giving you 75k and will sell that
For a minimum of 80 plus taxes and fees. Mine is 85k out the door.

Yeah, I just paid $108k (on paper) for my similar 26’ Tri with dark AT brand new. So, I would say saving $25k (taxes and fees) for a truck with 10k miles and the same exact hardware and tech seems like a good option. If you don’t have a need to save the additional money at all, just get the Gen2. They only launched the autonomy in a real way a few months ago, it will improve regularly for the next several years, if you want to pay for it.

On board with the Tri-MAX. Delivery Set for next week. Thanks all for the input.

Now my next question which Im sure would stir up some thoughts. I have a 2026 Escalade IQ Sport. Other than off roading and speed, does the RS1 Gen 2 Quad beat the IQ anywhere else? When we are looking at the Quad Gen 2 you will pay 126K, the same for the IQ Sport. Can Rivian really justify the Gen 2 Quad at the IQ price point? Unless you are looking for something to go superfast that has 3 rows. Or something you can offroad in, tell me where I'm wrong. I'm thinking IQ all day every day for a luxury 3 row EV at the Quad price point.

Get the tri. The higher efficiency in conserve and extra battery capacity makes a big impact on long road trips.

Software and app. We also have an IQ and it's nice for road tripping, due to the range and fast charging. But the software and app on it are so far behind Rivian...
To me, my 26 quad is a better buy at that price point but to my husband, who road trips regularly, the IQ fits his use case better.

I would only consider it because Rivian will give me 120k for my IQ and right now rivian is offering 0 percent financing, so it made me think a bit (my iq is the sport premium)

Ben I put an order in for a new TRI-MAX R1S. Used you as a referral as you were pretty engaged with my question. Thanks.

Personally, I avoid all black interiors. Too... "ugh... every vehicle on the road has black interiors" for me.

I haven’t driven the IQ, but have a hard time believing in the long term updates from Cadillac.

Kicking off the original post I decided on the:

2025 Rivian R1T Tri-Max, Midnight Black with Black Mountain + Brown Ash Wood Interior, 13k miles, 20 inch All Terrain Black Wheels. Has the Power Cover V2 and Underbody. Out the Door with all fees/taxes: $85k.

For the referral:

2026 Rivian R1S Tri-Max, El Cap, Ocean Coast with Drift Wood, 22" Sport Dark wheels. Trading in the IQ on that one. Pay off the remaining balance and the rest will go to the Rivian.

R1T for having fun and loading things and the R1S for hauling the family around!

We are in the same setup now! I drive the T and my wife drives the S for the kids. Once my eldest gets a car, might trade in the R1S for the R2 for my wife, but I will never get rid of the truck after owning it, most enjoyable vehicle I have ever driven.
