This is what AI says
  • Gen 2 Vehicles: You can have up to 8 digital keysper vehicle. These can be shared via text with friends and family for use in Apple, Google, or Samsung wallets.
  • Gen 1 Vehicles: These were historically limited to 2 phone keys, but software updates have increased this limit to 4 phone keys (which includes both phones and Apple Watch connections)

So my wife and I both have iPhone digital keys, but there is no Rivian key card for either of us in Apple wallet. Still confused was to how to get watch digital key. do we need to add a digital key from the iPhone Rivian app for the watch separate from the phone?

Lots of other sources for info online, including the various Rivian influencers, their sites and YouTube channels, like riviantrackr. Or contact Support and ask them to walk you through the process.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Finally figured out the issue. We both have phone keys, but not digital keys. Went through all of the troubleshooting steps to try and get the digital key, and concluded that there was an issue with our account not being flagged for a digital key.

Called up Rivian service, and ask them could they please check our account to see if we’ve been flagged for a digital key (we had all the necessary ingredients, correct car software, correct phones, correct operating systems, correct app versions) since we never received the “upgrade to digital key” email and had no links to update to a digital key on the app. They are not allowed to do that. They needed to walk me through the entire troubleshooting process, which included removing the phone key and reinstalling. Then he said, the likely problem is not being set correctly at our account level, and he sent a message to the account people to change the flag on the back end.

Sorry for the long diatribe, but the bottom line is, if you are not able to move from a phone key to a digital key, you need to call Rivian, allow them to walk you through the troubleshooting process, and only after all of that is done will they be able to message the account people to see if the flag has been set correctly on your account on the back end. Apparently, this is supposed to be done in waves automatically, but it looks like it may be missing people.

I will say that the service person on the phone call was extremely nice, very patient with me, something that would never happen with Tesla today. Hopefully this saves somebody else from some grief and aggravation.

Or you could have gone directly to Rivian's support page and gotten info that would be for-sure accurate:

AI (Gemini) is often faster than manual source-checking because it functions as an intelligent interpreter. In this case Rivian.com was one of a few sources. It shifts the labor of searching, reading and summarizing from you to your screen quickly. It works well for most things.

AI isn’t always right. All it does is do a web search for you, then string together the most common results into one seemingly coherent summary—on the assumption that most common is most correct. And that is not a fail-safe assumption. It’s potentially dangerous and misguided use of AI. One needs to have certain amount of knowledge, and exercise critical thinking, when using AI—to know when the responses are good or bad.

Fast and good are two different things.

Trying to connect my series 11 watch with cellular to my gen 1. I would like to be able to make/receive phone calls without my phone. Rivian not seeing it as a Bluetooth device, is this not possible? Rivian app on watch works great for lock/unlock, etc.

Rivians Gen 1 does not support this. It will not recognize an Apple Watch as phone. I believe Gen 2s may support this.
