I think the average wrap for a crossover SUV is like $3,500-$4,000. I’m not sure if that includes labor or not. Ive read about self-healing polyurethane wraps costing upwards of $8,000. I’ve never gotten my car wrapped before though.

Most people are putting thousands down and/or spending thousands in taxes, so the thought of spending thousands more on a vinyl wrap just to change the color might be a step too far. The OEM paint options are usually cheaper than this. Rivian’s color options for a full-size SUV are between $1,950 and $3,000, the latter of which is too high in my opinion.
Average wrap cost is $6K (including labor) since it has to be full edge wrapped everywhere. Much more detailed work than a front wrap. Big SUV costs more.

Leasing Model 3 until R3X comes out, but now I have an R2 reservation as well.

Doesn't have to be full edge wrapped. That's a choice. XPEL's plotter-cut option isn't full edge wrap, but "close enough". But, yes, full car wraps for large cars are generally $5~7k. I've seen higher quotes. R2 is smaller, might be less.

For color change, full edge is a must. Rivian XPEL is not a color change.

Well, does make me happy I got a storm blue R1T. Looks like Compass Yellow, Dune, and Storm Blue will be the only colors exclusive to Tri/Quad R1’s now.

Think you could get a dual compass yellow back when. Probably Dune as well.

Really? I thought compass was only ever quad, maybe there was a Gen1 Dual variant that I’ve never seen on used inventory. Definitely not Dune, pretty sure it was one spec for both T and S as a Tri.

You're probably right on Dune, on second thought.
Unless they killed yellow before Duals started shipping... I believe there should be some dual units out there.

Weirdly no. They need to fix this. The colors are all so similar aside from white and purple, it’s hard to tell (4 neutrals, 3 greens, and a purple).
The color options kinda suck. I may cancel my reservation that I made at the 2024 R2 event and get something else. Maybe an orange Bronco until the Scout Traveler is available. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

I prefer a car that other drivers will see easy and hopefully not smash into me while staring at their phones instead of the road. Plus the Scout has actual buttons, knobs and handles.

I’m surprised that they didn’t release at least one warm color. People love Canyon Red. There’s talk of them doing limited runs in the future. Maybe we’ll see a red, orange, or yellow. Something like on their RAD wraps. I’m not sure how far out that will be. I’m waiting until the end of 2027. Scout has been delayed until 2028. It might end up vaporware, who knows?

I would expect special editions to be in 2028 onwards as they have to get through the ramp and launch all trim levels which will take to end of 2027. The tri motor will have Special colors but that could be storm blue (great color but not warm)

That’s true. RJ said it will take 18 months to fully ramp R2, so probably starting sometime in June 2026 and hitting full production by December 2027. Just in time for my current Model 3 lease to end. Unless Rivian wants to buy it out early…

P.S. Storm Blue is a beautiful color. I don’t know why they didn’t do that instead of all the shades of green. I love green, but one shade is enough for launch. Same with one shade of gray. Blue car sales account for 9% of sales in the US. Purple car sales rank dead last with 0.07% of sales. Of course not many manufacturers offer that color, so that might be why.

I was surprised Storm Blue was not one of the colors. Seems like Catalina Cove covered the ā€œblueā€ bucket.

The color pallet will always revolve and change, especially when they need more demand levers. To start they went with safe colors that appeal to the masses to build and sell them quickly. The fact is bold and bright colors are hardest to move.
