My favorite part was at the beginning of the RJ part. RJ finishes Kyle's sentence by saying "tradeoffs." Then, RJ answers the question by saying "I'm so glad you used the term 'tradeoffs.'" I got a good chuckle out of that. My favorite part of the video was the segment with the design guy.

Unless I missed something, no mention of an odometer for the driver screen - standard feature of every vehicle since your grandfather was driving. Or an option to put a trip gauge and elevation for true adventure experience on the driver screen.
No. Kill the GPS and go into another menu.

This was a great video. Yes, the interviewer and the interviewees are both excited about the product. But the questions were very specific for RJ and thoughtful in the other conversations with design and software. Kudos to @OutofSpecKyle . I'm seeing a handful of SXSW interviews of RJ with varying quality on YouTube. No one is getting a more detailed analysis and look at the product itself.

Pretty information dense this one.

Will check this out. To be fair he goes on a lot of interviews and this recent one was great about autonomy and R2

Its possible that few people care about the odo as it serves little purpose other than overall reference. They put the odo front and centre on the app, which serves every purpose I can think of.
This isn't your grandfather's car, as evidenced by every other design decision they've made.
Cheers

I thought this was outstanding in the information RJ S., Wassym B, and Jeff H provided.
I was able to easily watch at x1.5 to x1.75 speed

YT Title: Rivian R2 Executive Interviews - Software, Future, Design: RJ Scaringe, Wassym Bensaid, Jeff Hammoud

Desc: Kyle goes on a full design tour of the new Rivian R2 with Jeff Hammoud, then moves to a software discussion with Wassym Bensaid, and discusses key decisions and program updates for Rivian as a whole with RJ Scaringe.

Great job Kyle, I thought you did a fine job interviewing and maintaining respectful relationship with these key players.
Specifically glad you chose to ask viewer-centric questions and didn't suck up too much.
Keep it up!

Although both odometer and clock matter to me, I spend more time wanting an easy-to-see real-time clock than odometer. While it's constantly visible, the clock is in the most inconvenient location possible and I don't know how to move or duplicate it.

On a recent trip, the clock was obscured by glare and I could only see it by moving both my trunk and my head -- taking almost all of my attention away from the road for a second or slightly more.

If RJ and Wassym insist on keeping the clock's primary location where it currently is -- perhaps not realizing that someday they'll be my age and have trouble focusing in and out as I do now -- at least can they make the clock and odometer (preferably together) one of the rotating options for the left side of the driver's screen?

Best to all!

If you look at the software portion of the video, you'll see that the clock now appears at the top right corner of the driver's screen.

Apparently, this software update is coming to R1 later this year.

My only beef with Kyle (other than the videos being a bit long-winded) is that he often talks over anyone else on camera with him, and he can come across as a bit of a know-it-all. But you're right, I've learned so much about Rivians and EVs in general (particularly regarding battery chemistries and charging) from watching his channel.
Besides the way he crams 15 minutes of info into 60 minutes?!

I don't need it on my app. I want it on my driver screen.

Perhaps its is of no requirement for you. If you are an urban driver in wingtips and never go off-road, the trip gauge or elevation information has little use for you. There are some drivers who actually think of this vehicle as an “adventure” vehicle. We are concerned about milage and elevation for waypoints for published off road excursions without having to switch between screens.

If you have have no desire for this feature, you should have the option to turn it off. But do not deny everyone else because you don’t want it.

Finished the whole interview - excellent throughout...learned a lot that wasn't in other coverage of the event. Maybe the most interesting was RJ's comment that LIDAR will initially mostly benefit data collection and that it will even provide benefits to gen 2 R1S. I wonder if that will impact people's decision whether to wait for the LIDAR version of the R2, or get this generation and still have some ADAS benefits.
