What are the terms of service anyway? Not very clear to me yet.
It's pretty clear -

  • One-time purchase ($2,500): The Autonomy+ upgrade stays with the vehicle (tied to the VIN). If you sell or transfer ownership of your Rivian, the buyer/new owner gets to keep and use the one-time purchased Autonomy+ features (no extra cost to them). It does not transfer to a different Rivian you might buy later.
  • Monthly subscription ($49.99/mo): The subscription is tied to your Rivian account and the specific vehicle. In the event of a transfer of ownership (sale, trade, etc.), the subscription automatically terminates on the transfer date. Rivian will issue a pro-rated refund for the remaining portion of the billing period to your original payment method.
  • You cannot move/subscribe the feature to another one of your Rivians: Autonomy+ (whether purchased or subscribed) is vehicle-specific. There is no official way to transfer the subscription or one-time purchase to a different vehicle you own. If you buy or lease another Rivian, you would need to subscribe or purchase Autonomy+ again for that new vehicle.

Is there any clarity as to whether traffic light and stop sign recognition will ever be possible with Autonomy + on a Gen 2? For me that's the capability that makes the purchase definitely worthwhile

I won't be purchasing it. It doesn't work well enough on the back roads to justify spending 15, let alone 50, dollars a month. For the current feature set, I don't see the value, and given how much intervention I have to do, it's not an effort-saver anywhere but on the highway. Since you still get to keep lane centering on the highway with the free, that's the only thing of value in the current offering.

I bought after a brief hold to experience what it’s like without (not much difference now😁). I prefer to drive on side streets and backroads and luckily (for me) it works.

Works for me too. I ended up caving and getting the monthly 🤦🏻. One drive on the highway without it and I was sold.

So interesting the different experiences people have.

I barely have to touch the steering wheel. I rest my hand on my leg and put a couple fingers on the steering wheel and it's perfect. The only thing I'm missing is lane change, which I do manually anyway.

I checked, and it takes 13 seconds before the truck will nag and tell me to put my hand back on the steering wheel. So, technically it's 13 seconds of hands-free. 😂

I think mine was acting weird because of the radar that was bad. I wound up paying the monthly on my drive back from SC yesterday, because there was a ton of traffic and having the car drive itself in the traffic is worth the 50 bucks.

The Gen 2s are about to get Comma support as well anyway.

It's already here. Harnesses are available to purchase on the Xnor site. Be aware that Gen 2 support currently is at a level that Gen 1 support was at when it was first ported, meaning it is lateral (steering) control only. The Rivian still controls acceleration and braking - that also means you can use features like experimental mode.

You still saved $2450.01.
We all know the software can just get better from here and I know i will always want the new software features in order to keep my rivian fun and exciting.
