I wish we could see the tailgate open. I have kennels for my dogs and need to see how much head clearance there is. Also the lowest point of the trunk space and the narrowest. The amount of total cubic feet doesn’t help.

Bottom of rear area is 42”W X 42” D X ?? tall at the rear hatch door space. Don’t know how tall that opening but doesn’t feel much smaller at back opening than our R1S. There is a lot of room in that R2. Know for a fact there is more leg room in 2nd row than our R1S in second row.

I did some R2 cargo area measurements because dog crate options are key for me.

Biggest limitation for me is the cargo hatch opening, since I need a crate for a large GSD. Inside cargo area ceiling height is 31" inch-ish, but the cargo opening has a lower lip at around 29" inches. There aren’t really any travel crates the size I need that are that short.

Cargo area width (wheel well to wheel well) is about 41" inch, and depth to the back of seats up is about 36.5" inch.

Thanks, I had my daughters kiddie tape measure that went to 18” so I ballparked it. Looks like I was off on the depth. The rear seats lean back a bit and the rear hatch door leans in a bit so not sure the actual depth with everything closed. Would have had to sit in the truck with it closed to measure. That was chewing into my 2 minutes they gave us to crawl around the interior.

Sounds like Rivian needs to partner with someone to sell a crate size that fits perfectly in the truck. Then the problem is solved for those that need it.

Its a bit deceptive to me. The classic SUV styling plus wheelbase plus height/ground clearance make it seem larger than it is IMO. It actually sits between a RAV4 and Honda Passport Trailsport.
