I have a PDM R1S since late September. It has been problem free, only small issue has been a little part of the headliner was not glued by the front driver seat belt. A little glue and patience fixed it.
My under standing is everything is the same as the quad, so unless you have motor failure...
yup! May 2022 R1S. I pre orderd a dual motor from day 1 and ended up changing to a performance dual motor early summer 2023. I mostly did it due to Rivian cutting back software on the base (no sport mode) and knowing dual performance models will be prioritized. Got my R1S late September.
I only demo drove a quad, felt the same. I think I drive about 70% AP and 30% sport. AP is still fast enough, just not “sports car” fast. I am only about 3 weeks into ownership so the novelty of sport mode is still awesome. As I own it longer I see more AP use. Currently for just driving around...

I was poking around the configurator last night and noticed on Dual performance now has soft sand mode to the list of drive configurations. Not sure when I would use soft sand with my dual motor performance, but good to know it might be coming!
Awesome to see a Portland club! I have a R1S on order. Like many last week I got the confirm configuration email, so fingers cross it actually shows us this early fall. I feel lucky though, my pre order was May 2022, not as long of a wait as some of you.
Yeah the quad motor is really cool but being a post price increase reservation, spending more money on performance I wont regularly use didn’t make sense. As much as I love to drive spirited, in the end it’s still a large family hauler / commuter.
I am an August to September estimate, looks...
I am a mid May 2021 pre order with a dual motor. Estimate is Aug - Sept 2023, I live in Portland, close to a service center and state that has “good” direct sales laws.
I suspect Rivian is has to balance supply chain issues (been reported quad motors are a bottle neck), cash flow, direct sale...
