Is the additional horsepower unlocked with Performance Dual Motor only available when leveraging sport mode? Or, do all of the drive modes (all purpose, towing, etc) benefit from the Performance Dual Motor option?

This is not made clear on the Rivian website, and Rivian chat wasunable to answer this when I asked.

The YouTube videos and reviews of the Dual Motor are all of Performance Dual Motor. And, conflict by statements have are regularly made.

I’m trying to better understand what the experience of the base Dual Motor is like and how much is practically different with Performance Dual Motor.

Thanks in advance for any experiences shared.

I got a performance dual motor! In AP mode it does go, just not throw your head back. In sport mode it does seem like it has more power. When you launch or mash the throttle you feel a lot more go. Also having sport mode you can be in permanent AWD with out being in snow or offroad. AP is like a mix of AP and conserve in the quads. In AP with the dual, there is a slight delay to activate the rear motor if it was in FWD mode. It almost feels like turbo lag in an ICE, but not as bad or delayed.

From the feel of everything I think sport is only way you get the extra oomph, in AP it does feel less powerful like the standard programing for all duals performance or not.

In short, Sport mode has more power, more go. Would I buy the performance dual again? Yes!! glad I did seems to be the goldilocks for me.

Thank you for for sharing your experiences. It’s very helpful to me.

Which drive mode are you using mostly, all purpose or sport?

Which wheels did you go with?

On the quad, which isn't what you asked for I'm aware, AP mode is 70% power while sport is 100%. I wonder if the performance dual is the same.

I only demo drove a quad, felt the same. I think I drive about 70% AP and 30% sport. AP is still fast enough, just not “sports car” fast. I am only about 3 weeks into ownership so the novelty of sport mode is still awesome. As I own it longer I see more AP use. Currently for just driving around my preferred setting is AP - stiff - standard regen (high is great but just a bit too aggressive, I like to come a slowwwwww stop) - standard height.

I could see the same programing as the quad with 70% in AP and 100% in sport, it does feel like a decent power boost in sport. I wish Rivian was a bit more clear on how they programmed the duals. My best guess is the in AP it’s the standard power rating of 530 ft lbs vs sport of 830 ft lbs.

1) R1T or R1S?
2) Would you please post a photo of the GVWR gross vehicle weight? Should be on a sticker by the entry / driver door. (If it’s an R1S, then please share that here, and here: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/r1s-dual-motor-gvwr-and-co-tax-credit.20235/)
