So, if I understand correctly, the 411 on the 1st Gen R2 is that the BEV SUV has 5G, V8 power without the CO2, RWD or AWD with AT or AS tires, a Gen 2 AI software stack at launch, but Gen 3 hardware perhaps as early as Q4, but more likely Q1+ (but will Rivan FAB chip RAP1 powering ACM3 with 1600 sparse INT8 TOPS be Launch or AWOL?) Those hoping for the 45K R2 (MIA at launch) will be SOL until Q4 2027.

FYI, Rivian is keeping the R3 on the QT, but for those with FOMO, PR claims RAD-tuned R3X launches first, DL est. cost 37K-47K, ETA TBD, Rivian says ASAP, but likely post-Georgia, unless Normal goes 24/7.

Rivian R&D developing RUI, a LLM AI to reach Level 5 before Tesla, but those with OCD likely not OK with AD until stack is proven 5x5, which comes before 6 7.

ya'll make all the fun you want, but the next time your out in Yosemite or remote and are trying to get that text message out in low or near zero data - and don't have a satellite enabled phone or plan, you're going to try and it and when you hear that little WHOOOSH, you're going to remember this thread. ;-)
Actually, even without the starlink plan, on newer phones you can still get emergency texts out on other higher satellites, though you have to wait for one to be overhead. It was the only way I was able to text when Hurricane Helene hit here, but my son was the only person I knew who had just updated to the new iOS and had that ability to receive them. It wasn't long after we got cell and internet back that the Starlink free trial started. It's MUCH better than regular satellite connectivity but that's better than nothing.

Any iPhone after >14 has had satellite messaging for emergencies. And then they all got access to satellite messaging once I think iOS 16 or 17 came out. All through globalstar. Outside the poles and some odd dead spots and the tips of southern hemisphere countries access should be available.

The trick on the head doesn’t work with a satellite connection btw. That’s all direct line of sight with the sky and the bird overhead.
