Hi! Super apologize if this has been addressed many times before, but after searching and reading every thread that mentions "salvage", "pyro" "critical battery error" and "Hawaii", I haven't seen it directly addressed.
I live in Hawaii (vehicle was on Oahu where there is a service center) and I just bought a salvage title 24 R1S that is basically perfect shape, but was salvaged because it was in our recent floods. Seeing that these things are supposed to be able to cross rivers (but understanding that sitting in a flood and crossing a river are really different), I rolled the dice.
I thought, worse comes to worst, I get it towed to SC, pay the $950, and have them fix it so I can do the salvage rebuild process. Turns out, Hawaii needs it fixed and inspected before they issue the title, but Rivian insists they need the title in my name first, despite every official in the State being pissed because "a Certificate of Salvage is perfectly legal document proving ownership". One service guy there was trying to be helpful, but then his manager came out and screamed at me, even after I very calmly explained I was just trying to give money to the Rivian Service Center to perform Service on a Rivian, so "talking to the manager" is out.
Anyway, so because of that chicken-and-egg dilemma I am tasked with fixing this myself.
12v battery was completely dead, <1v, and wouldn't take a charge even when disconnected, so I replaced it with a identically sized, non-OEM (but upgraded Optima) battery. (I still plan to get the Ohmmu sodium one if I get this driving).
After I successfully boot the computer, it is showing a "Critical Battery Error - Service Vehicle Immediately", please see photos. But, it says the HV battery is at 57%. Last piece of information, through a friend's auto repair shop, I do have access to purchase a Rivian RIDE subscription, but haven't done so yet, because it is pricey and I haven't totally figured out how to do it yet (I signed up a month ago and now cannot find the subscription page again).
Here are my questions;
1) I don't think the pyro fuse went as the airbags are find and there was no collision, but I have read conflicting data about whether water intrusion or a completely dead battery can make it fire. Thoughts there? This thread implies the pyro fuse *can* go if the HV battery is not properly shut down, but in this case the completely dead battery might have tripped it if this thread is correct? https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/blown-pyro-fuse-after-12v-battery-bracket-service.49516/
1a)can I just go into the service mode RIDE interface (different than the RIDE software at SC, I know), and reset the 12v battery?
2) I have seen a thread that shows a photo of what the pyro fuse looks like (https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/pyro-fuse-location.20924/), but have several questions
2a) it looks like the dash just pops off, directly upwards, with enough encouragement? is this true or does anyone know how to access this pyro fuse?
2b) I have seen several posts talking about different pyro fuses for the 2v and HV systems, is this real or are those people confused? Does the Rivian have one or more than one type of pyro fuse?
2c) if I measure discontinuity on the fuse, that just means replace it, are there other parts of that assembly that additionally need replacement?
3) am I going to need to subscribe to RIDE, or does anyone want to help me do this remotely for $?
4) I have seen other people's pictures of the "critical battery issue", and it looks like those highlighted the battery and mine highlighted the motors, but I have mine set to "dark theme" or night mode or whatever it is called. Does that icon indicate the problem or are the colors just inverted?
5) what else should I know or be asking?
Thanks all!
