Summer mode is finally here.

Rivian R1T R1S R1S Tri-Motor Summer Build: 22" Forged Atomic Wheels + Hankook iON HT (275/50R22) Electron AW10 22

One of the first things I wanted to change on my R1S Tri was getting rid of the 20" All-Terrain wheels. I know they're great for those who actually need them, but for my use case they were noisy, heavy, and made the vehicle feel like it was carrying a dumbbell at each corner. I'm pretty particular about driving dynamics, so I can't emphasize enough how happy I am to have the 20s off. I'm addicted to shaving off unsprung weight, because it makes a real difference with real benefits. If you know, you know.

After waiting for summer, I finally installed a set of fully ceramic-coated 22" Atomic [AW10] Wheels wrapped in Hankook iON HT tires (275/50R22), followed immediately by an alignment to get things dialed in.

The difference is night and day. As expected from a lightweight forged setup, the R1S feels way more responsive, more planted, noticeably quieter, and simply more enjoyable to drive. These tires are #1 in my book and this is coming from a hard core Michelin fan.

Huge shoutout to @Atomic Wheels for producing an incredibly lightweight fully forged wheel that completely transforms the character of the R1S. If you're primarily driving on pavement, I can't recommend them enough. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me and I'd be happy to help. For any fellow owners in the PNW, if you see me at any meet-ups you're more than welcome to take it for a spin to experience it first hand.

The Hankook iON series continue to be my favorite All-Season EV tire. They're exceptionally quiet, perform great in both wet and dry conditions, and offer excellent tread life and warranty coverage. I've run many of the popular tire options over the years, and the Hankooks have consistently impressed me.

This is just the beginning of the build. Next up is a full color-change PPF wrap and running boards. I'll continue sharing updates as the project evolves.

Other specs:
• Nano-Ceramic Tint: 20% All Around + 50% Front WS
• Front Windshield PPF
• Uniden R8W
• Forged Carbon Interior Accents
• Audio Upgrade (Sub, Amp etc...)

Please post your interior accents, Im very intrigued ad a CF fan.
Absolutely will do! I'm actually in the middle of redoing the accents with a different forced CF to dial in that perfect balance. Pics to come soon...

Yup! 21x8.5 +45. Same offset which is great to get that flush look without needing spacers.

I have this spec. 2026 R1S Storm Blue Tri max on factory 22's and Scorpion

I've seen Hankook and Defender as the two most popular options.
Why the Hankook over the Michelins.
Just curious.

Why the Hankook over the Michelins.
Just curious.
For me, the biggest reason is noise. It all started when I had the Michelin PS4 AS on our Teslas. My wife couldn't stand the noise/pitch, and honestly it was annoying even for me. The Hankooks are noticeably quieter than the Michelins, which is a huge plus in an EV.

Beyond that, I've found them to perform just as well, if not better, in both wet and dry conditions. They've also been surprisingly good in the snow based on my experience running them on my Teslas, and we're in the mountains quite a bit during the winter. I've also noticed less hydroplaning during heavy rain in a few spots that I drive through regularly.

The treadwear and warranty are excellent, and overall they're just an incredibly well-rounded tire. I think they look better too, but that's obviously subjective.

Most importantly, they perform. The iON series has won multiple tests and awards in Europe and has consistently ranked near the top in independent reviews. Michelin still makes a fantastic tire, but for my needs, the Hankooks check more boxes.

Looks fantastic! And I just did same thing on another vehicle (lighter wheels & tires) and love how it feels.

Agree looks amazing. I'm in Mill Creek so a fellow PNW'er; and I'm leasing so prolly not gonna do a lot of aftermarket stuff considering I'm not likely to keep it after the lease.

How do you like the windshield ppf? Which brand? I have heard and seen on videos they can discolor after 2-3 years and are replaced. Does it mess up the adas?

After going through several iterations, I settled on forged carbon accents to keep the theme in sync with the natural wood and earthy aesthetic of the Rivian interior. Traditional carbon fiber just didn't do it for me as it felt too out of place and took away from the warm, natural design language.

Originally, I was only planning to do the interior accents, but I decided to experiment with the rear RIVIAN logo as well, and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

It honestly looks much better in person. The photos don't do it justice. I think it adds just the right amount of contrast and elevates the overall look without feeling overdone. I'm all about keeping things clean and balanced.

The bottom portion is wrapped all in one piece. No seams. Crazy difficult.

It definitely took a lot of time and patience. It looks simple, but it's actually pretty tedious to get everything lined up just right.

I've been toying with the idea of offering a kit, but we'll see. I'm not sure yet.

Enjoy!

XPEL, but I'm planning to switch to EVO, which I think is currently the best windshield protection film on the market.

These films aren't designed to last forever, but I had them on my Teslas and found that switching to silicone wiper blades helped extend their lifespan. A lot also comes down to maintenance. I keep my windshield exceptionally clean, so I've been able to get well beyond the expected life of the film.

In my opinion, it's worth every penny if you spend a lot of time on the highway or do any off-roading. Just the peace of mind alone is worth it. Once you get used to knowing that your glass is protected, it's hard to go without it. It's a similar feeling with a radar detector.

Nice write up and review! What kinds of efficiency data are you getting with the Ions? I'm also thinking of going with them when my 22" range Pirelli are done.

Great job!!! I love how it blends, doesn't look too gawdy and the matte finish.
