Update: I went with the 119 version on Friday evening. I only have about 60-70 miles on them and they drive substantially better than the Pirelli's! Quieter, smoother, more comfortable and the vehicle just drives better all around. Don't have much yet on efficiency numbers, too small of a sample size, but even with a slight range loss, so far they are 100% worth it.

@bc81620 Any update on the efficiency angle? I'm considering the Defender 119s as well, but the efficiency loss encountered by some (though seemingly not all) has given me pause. I'm also curious what pressure you're running them at, and whether you've tried the increased pressures I've seen others use/recommend given the tire's load rating (seems to float between 55, 60, and 65 PSI).

@jlgoolsbee

I am running them at about 65PSI and have noticed maybe a 5% loss of range. I am averaging just over 2 mi/kWH and with the Pirelli's I was getting just over 2.1 mi/kWh.

The ride quality improvement was noticeable the moment I drove out of the DiscountTire parking lot. I am super happy with the ride, the look and hopefully the lifespan. The life I get out of them remains to be seen though. I plan to rotate the tires every 5k, not 7.5k as Rivian recommends.

The manager at the Discount Tire confirmed that they are a Rivian partner. They had jack pucks for the truck and knew how to put the vehicle in the highest suspension settings. I ordered the tires online and had them sent to a location of my choosing and scheduled online.

The day before they called me and asked if I wanted to come in that day as they had time, it was a Friday, and I happened to be available, so I did. Saved me some time on a Saturday.

They installed the tires quickly and I can't speak highly enough of that process.

There does appear to be a slight range loss. I have a dual, max and I don't think I will ever notice the slight range loss. 95% of my driving is daily driving that uses about 10-11% of my battery. I charge to 70% at night and rarely dip below 60% end of day, some days down to about 45% when I am really driving around and aggressive on the throttle with the AC blasting full tilt.

I live at high altitude, 8k, and spend a lot of time driving up and down some steep grades. I use the standard all purpose drive settings 99% of the time. Every so often I throw it in sport, and I have the performance upgrade, but that is rare.

My $0.02 is that the stiffer tire is absolutely warranted with the weight of the vehicle and the sharp curves at steep grades that I drive. Especially if I am driving up and down the Vail Pass or up to Eisenhower Tunnel at high speeds. I always ran a 9ply tire on my Ford F150's for this same reason and the Rivian weighs even more.

After reading everything on the internet I could find, including all of the nonsense stuff that people post, as well as using several AI tools to research what I should do, I think I made the right choice.

I just purchased the Michelin Defender LTX M/S2,115 load rating, they were inflated to 51 when i picked up the vehicle. Do I need to increase the tire pressure? I took a 2.5 hour drive over to the beach yesterday and I usually have about 45% left on the charge but yesterday it was around 38%. Has anyone seen a reduction in efficiency?
I believe Michelins are less efficient for a start. Also new tires are less efficient than old tires afaik. They would be heavier for sure and the deeper tread may make it worse too
