Ladies and gentleman, our first R2 flip has been spotted by a private seller at an asking price of $79,900. Dune R1T in the background.

I would rather have the R2 than the 12.5k profit.

My R2 total is 67,450 out the door in SoCal.

My R2 total is 67,450 out the door in SoCal.
I'm definitely keeping my R2. But I have 2 reservations, so if someone is impulse buying and spending more than they should on one of these, I'm happy to use both reservations to sell one and keep one.

What's the incentive to pay a significant markup for a flip? If you want an offroad-capable EV, the R1S is available immediately. If you want a fast commuter EV, the Model Y (and 5 other decent EVs) are available immediately. And if you wait to buy an R2 you'll get one with the early production kinks fixed and maybe new hardware. I just don't see it--it isn't 2020 anymore.

You assume all humans are logical, rational beings.

I would like to believe that's true, but there is unfortunately far too much evidence to the contrary. Remains to be seen though if any of these flips actually materialize for actual profits. I'm certainly not holding my breath or counting on it. I'm just open to the opportunity

I don't think there's going to be a big market for regular consumers to pay premiums especially without Point to Point even released yet. Maybe some teardown firms and OEMs will buy some to understand the cost optimizations. Plus, to benchmark against their upcoming vehicles. That's still a pretty limited market.

yeah, there's always that person who has money (or maybe doesn't) and wants to be that special kid on the block - the bragging rights to be the first one to have something. If one of them wants to buy ours for $15k markup - take it. I have 3 reservations. lol

If someone is willing to be $80K for R2, as the cliche goes, there is a sucker born every minute.
You know, you might just be on to something there...

Perhaps for the first 30 days Rivian should sell the R2 for $80K so all the "I just have to have mine now" idiots could get theirs before the rest of us. They'd be happy and Rivian would be happy making increased $$ for the first month too. Hmmmm....
