I finally caught up with all of these (very good IMO) videos. I think people are just flat out wrong about Kyle whining about not getting early access and therefore cancelling his order. What he said (I watched a few times to be sure) was perfectly logical:
1) He was going to buy one to create content about the vehicle for his channel
2) Because of delays out of Rivian he was unable to get one early enough to make content that would still be relevant (he is in a time-sensitive business)
3) So he has borrowed one for content creation and now he no longer needs one

And he notes that it is a shame. The borrowed vehicle gets 80% of the content. Rivian loses out on the other 20% that would have naturally come over time because it was a long-term owned vehicle (like the R1S / R1T has over the past years). But it no longer makes sense to buy one now that the main content is done.

That is not prima donna that is sensible business from a guy trying to earn a living. I have no connection with the guy whatsoever but I think the internet is misreading this entirely to fit a pre-determined narrative about influencer privilege. In any case, for his personal use the iX5 is probably the killer vehicle anyway (if the German overlords will finally give a proper dog mode - and while they are at it maybe a proper OPD in D?).

After deeper investigation the pivot point at which your 100% range starts to decrease on R2 is around 90 kWh capacity. This means on media the actual buffer is around 1.7 kWh.

I don't know why Rivian does this. The Gen 2 R1 Max Pack pivot is 141.5 kWh even though their communicated capacity is 140 kWh.

Piling on here - just wait until folks cry in the middle of winter that their addressable capacity is less than advertised . Our R1's max pack fluctuates between around 143kWh and ~125kWh depending on the conditions.

That's a big part of "social media", YT-ers, "influencers", and a totally valid reason to dislike his content.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, and there's a couple of people who really know their stuff (film related), but their personality gets in the way. So I avoid EPs where they're hosting.

Anyway...

Eventually his results will get circulated for people who value them - but - don't want to sit through his videos. Which I get Not a hater, not a weird Kyle fanboy

Yes. I've been ruthlessly open that the battery features on Rivian Roamer are about capacity and that those are impacted by weather, heavily. Others for their own gain, call this health.

No matter how much I communicate this people will still infer this is health.

MY P went over EPA at 70mph. Yes I know EPA is not constant 70mph, but to come up almost 80miles short of EPA in R2 is terrible.

Tesla is not longer advertising false ranges like it use to, Rivian is.

Well to be fair to either Rivian or the EPA there is nobody who thinks (or should think) that an EPA range means total distance that can be travelled at 70-80 mph on the highway.

Well RJ did state bluntly "we've matched Model Y efficiency"...which is just based on some BS EPA test. So it's a pretty crooked comment IMO; he shouldn't have said that. Let's call a spade a spade.

I gave R2 a pass on the 80mph test but 70mph isn't even fast. It's mildly disappointing to me. R2 needed to be around 100 kWh pack; would've only costed them about $1,000 more.

I don’t disagree, just saying we’ve been down this “the epa tag says X or Y” not only with EV vehicles for many years, but also ICE vehicles which never really get the purported MPG especially on highway speeds. Prior to EV vehicles, there was quite a large argument that highway EPA range for ICE cars was nearly always inferior to reported #’s. Historically, the highway portion was done at 55 mph.. but of course that hasn’t been real world in years. But the OEM didn’t want it updated to be a 60 or 65 mph testing since it would require them to LOWER EPA highway reported speeds.

Agreed. You're not getting 300 miles even at 60mph. Brutal.

And, while I knew it would be nowhere near 300+, it will have me taking a closer look at the EX60 and iX3 in August when they’ll be available for test drives though not really interested in paying 10k more for the pkgs I’d want.
