Oh, that's right. I forgot Cybertruck can float. Perfect for those flash floods you don't know are coming. So does the Cyber truck, plus it makes a great boat.

This may come as a real surprise to some, but on my Polestar 2 I‘m almost permanently tuned to WGCU FM HD 2 carrying NPR and the classical music channel (I know this is almost anathema to some people on this forum). During the hurricane season in South Florida (June-October), these stations (with their mandatory backup power) are the only ones functioning for almost a third of the state when the s*!t hits the fan.I thought the "nobody needs an antiquated radio" crowd were obnoxious extremists, but you have shown me outrageousness covers both ends of this debate. (Thanks!)
Personally I think the number of people killed by not having a built-in FM radio due to missed emergency warnings would be more or less the same as the number of people killed trying to be the 17th caller to the FM station giving away concert tickets while driving. (I did say more or less!)
Personally, I also think Rivian should not have deleted the FM radio, as it is likely to lose them sales, and seriously piss off some customers who didn't realize their shiny new R2 didn't come with a real radio. If I end up not buying an R2 when my order window opens, the missing FM radio will be a small part of the reason why (but most certainly not the most important reason).
Elon also said the glass was bulletproof. We all know how that turned out...BBBBBBBut Elon said "Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes & even seas.”

But I think the antenna placement is better than what you can get using a phone sitting inside a metal box. It does seem to hold the signal longer than my phone does.None of the Rivians have a cell booster. All of them have a standard voice/data cell modem, which feeds a computer, which manages the infotainment and in-car wifi. A cell booster repeats an signal from one place to another, with some amplification, but cannot be a modem/call/data device itself.
Of course, plus the antenna is larger, and it's legal to use higher power. Mostly however I get better service on my phone because T-Mobile blows away the old AT&T Network that gen 1 runs on. Not sure if gen 2 or R2 are upgraded (suspect yes). But I think the antenna placement is better than what you can get using a phone sitting inside a metal box.
not affiliated with either - one is more seamless but is a little more intrusive and the other is more just clip on - especially if you just want maps that EV Sportline model may do the trickI don't really care about the lack of AM/FM. I'm more worried about loss of cell signal for the map and navigation.
I've got days of music and podcast backlog on my phone. It's been decades since I listened to radio regularly in the car.
I will miss Apple CarPlay. It's so nice to be able to launch GaiaGPS and see all the topographic and satellite maps saved on my phone for the North Maine Woods. I'll have to get a dashboard mount again for that.
I found out recently Apple Music has Audacy stations. for instance here in NY/NJ, I can listen to WFAN via Apple Music/Audacy. So that route could get me Yankees games. I also believe Audacy signed a deal and a bunch of their major stations are going to be simulcasted on SiriusXM. SiriusXM also licenses just about every sport so you can listen there too (another subscription, I know)Is it possible for either the native AM Radio (iHeart) or TuneIn to properly use your location so sports are not blacked out? I am in Southern California and wanted to listen to AM570 for the Dodgers game yesterday on my new R2 and both options just kept repeating it was blacked out. It seems silly that I can use TuneIn on my phone via Bluetooth but it doesn't work via the native Rivian app in the vehicle.
I tried Apple Music as well, and that does not work in this instance either. The only thing I have been able to get working is using iHeart or TuneIn on my phone. It seems like whatever method these native apps in the Infortainment unit are using to get location data is not working properly.I found out recently Apple Music has Audacy stations. for instance here in NY/NJ, I can listen to WFAN via Apple Music/Audacy.
