I'm looking into getting a used R1T/R1S and searching for any dealerships that specialize in used Rivians. Obviously there is Rivian themselves, but I wanted to know if there were any credible dealers (preferably in the SE) that move a high volume of used Rivians and have sales staff that are knowledgeable about them. This way I could expand my search pool without worrying about dealing with a dealership that knows nothing about the vehicles. Thanks in advance for any leads.

Spoiler: all dealers are terrible and none of the sales people there can or should be trusted. Heck, most listings for used EVs I've seen don't even tell you which battery size they have!

That can work to your advantage... if you're looking for the Max batter and they don't know the difference between a Standard and Max you can negotiate a lower price. But if you're looking for the Standard battery that cuts the other way.

Generally speaking, none really specialize on EVs, per se. Some say they do and have some knowledge, but generally speaking, it would be more of a burden on you to be the subject matter expert. The good thing is that even used a Rivian comes with a manufacturer warranty, so as long as you check out the Carfax, test drive it and get a feel for it, you should be ok. Chances are that the last owner already took care of the initial quality pains (assuming 10k or so miles on the vehicle), so a used Rivian really stands out as a good deal nowadays.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm definitely leaning towards going direct from Rivian since they do their multipoint instpection and would be able to easily tell me the service history of the vehicles.

There's a dealership here in Virginia that has a bunch of Rivian's on the lot. Lindsay VW. I see their banner "We have Rivians!" all the time from the highway. I realize this is not Florida, but is Virginia still technically "the southeast"? 😆

There's a thread on the forum. This is their sales director. I believe he owns several Rivian vehicles himself (as well as other EV's):

While your mileage may vary, Carmax is an official Rivian authorized dealer for used Rivian's.

Dunno that this place "specializes" in them, but they have 31 in stock right now.

Not sure what your vehicle needs are but the R2 is coming out soon. If the R2 was available when I got the R1, I'd probably get the R2 because it seems a lot simpler; specially the suspension. I have ptsd from a LR RR we owned before. If the R1 is a must, I'm not convinced that knowledge of the car by the dealership will help the quality of the product. You might be better off getting it private party. All the best.

I have a day 1 R2 reservation, but kind of champing at the bit to get into an EV and I'm worried how long it will take R2 to reach mass production. I figure a used Gen1 that has already taken the depreciation hit would not be a bad option and if we like the R1 that much my wife can use the R2 reservation. As long as a dealership can supply the Rivian service record and it still has some of the comprehensive 60k warranty left, I feel pretty comfortable grabbing a used R1.

Thanks for the link, I'll have to reach out to them.
Let us know how it goes! The dude is local to me. I'm not in the market, but always said if I ever had free time (haha, that's a joke) I'd swing by and bring them a box of donuts or something. Not that I'm in the market to buy, but just want to support Rivian any way I can. 😆
