Hi all, sad this is my first post. Wife was involved in a rear end collision last week. Teenager was on phone and not paying attention when he struck her. Thankfully she was okay and my little ones were not in the truck. No airbag deployment, but she was quite sore the next day. SSD didn't capture anything from gear guard sadly. Going through the stress of working with insurance currently. Found out the kid who hit us as a Progressive plan with up to 50K in coverage. Have two options to go through progressive, or make a claim on my State Farm policy.

Based on the pic, can anyone give me an assessment if this is totaled or not? I have the truck parked out front and not being used for fear of the lighter popping off, but mainly for my kids safety until it's checked out. I started a lease on the vehicle in December. Original play was to buy out after a year of ownership if we loved the truck, which we have for the last 3 months. At this point kinda hoping for a totaled vehicle to start fresh and not worry about body work issues. Not to mention the nightmare of getting the PPF reapplied. Anyone have similar damage and have successful repair? Looking through Rivian certified centers here in VA. Appreciate some tips and guidance, thank you all!

Thankfully your wife is okay. Let your insurance company deal with this matter.

Glad everyone is ok. Ensure you file a diminished value claim to his insurance as well.

I’m super curious how this turns out. I hope you can come back and tell us. I am in the “it’s fine, I’d even drive it like that” camp but I do agree that some damage not readily apparent from the outside view could reverse that.

I'm glad to hear that everyone is ok. It's unfortunate to be involved in any incident, even more so when it's out of your control. Vehicles can be replaced.

Concerning the totaled or not - Like others have stated, a Rivian approved body shop should access the damages. At a glance assessment cannot tell the true picture. I know this from experience as my R1T is in the shop as we speak. The initial quote was $16K then jumped to $26K due to some rear substructure damage where the tailgate attaches to the chassis. Don't let the cost scare you, in my case the impact also effected the rear quarter panel below the taillight. They're also electing to replace the uniside panel - Blessing and a curse that Rivian designed the truck with a seamless unified section like a SUV.

All told, even at $26K in repairs to a LE with 30K miles, insurance has approved the repairs.
The determining factor is if the impact energy went past the crumple zone and into the frame. This can ONLY be determined after the shop completes disassembly.

Thank you everyone for all the informative takes and insight. Truly appreciate it.

Have progressive out to assess the car, but thanks to y’all’s advice will likely file through State Farm. Given the truck is a lease I’m not too upset apart from the inconvenience. I am crossing fingers for totaled just for piece of mind of any battery damage or other issues that ma arise down the road during ownership. We shall see, I’ll keep this thread updated

Sorry to hear of your accident...that sucks for sure. Good news is: 1) your wife is not hurt and, 2) it's a lease so all you have to do if it's not totalled is repair back to good. If it isn't perfect, you enjoy it through the lease then drop the keys. You're not stuck trying to sell with a history or fighting for diminished value. If you love it, swap for a new one at lease end. My opinion is you're in a much better position than if you owned it.

Just make darn sure it's only repaired by a Rivian Certified Body Shop. Good luck!

Appreciate those thoughts, that’s what I’ve resolved myself to the last few days. Taking time to appreciate the quality of this product and that it protected my wife. And yes, it’s at a Rivian certified shop waiting to be assessed by State Farm

Good luck trying to get Progressive to pay. Had a young driver back into my R1T in a parking lot and I opened a claim with his parents insurance. Progressive came back and said I was 50% at fault and I needed to have my insurance pay. The quote to repair was almost $10K. My adjuster told me he was shocked that Progressive actually said it was 50-50 as normally, they just say it's your fault and walk away.

Hope you have a better experience.

Well I was sure they were going to total my truck but somehow they only wrote up 7k worth of damage. Pics in another thread on here. It made it to the body shop where they wrote up over 22k in damage, waiting for Insurance to go back out and reassess. Dealing with Progressive has been a nightmare to this point.

Hey all wanted to update the thread. Initial estimate was 7K per State Farm. Body shop took the car apart and have made an addendum and noted the car is a total loss. Anyone with experience on total lease of their Rivian while on lease?
