It uses a combined design where the same LED element serves as both the brake light and the blinking turn signal. I believe the rear turn signal may be red for North America models.

Well hopefully Rivian has the smarts not to remove amber rear turn signals just for NA. Volvo did that for its SPA2 cars and its more informed/educated/worldly customer sub-segment was unimpressed. Why remove a safety advantage just for NA?It uses a combined design where the same LED element serves as both the brake light and the blinking turn signal. Agree. I think it has more to do with the color. This color maybe?
Probably just a lift-gate adjustment needed at the hinges or at the latch. Easy diy fixPanel alignment on the tailgate of the white one looks better than the R2 displayed in the factory lobby.
(I was in the lobby last week to pick up my R1S after the Normal service center replaced a damaged tire. I took a few pics of the R2 -- which was roped off - while I waited.)

I think it’s meant to look like a leaf. Strange that it’s not powered. I guess removing that functionality was due to cost savings? Maybe by making it manual they wanted it to stand out so the average person knows where the charging port is in order to access it, like on Legacy automaker’s EVs and ICE vehicles?Rivian’s look great in white. This R2 is no exception. The charging port looks kinda odd.
White really does show off the contours of a vehicle. Plus is makes the dark gray trim pieces and red brake lights pop. The color combo of white, red, and black is classic. One advantage of white in hotter climates is that it reflects heat more than any other color. I suspect this will reduce AC use and preserve range/battery life.I love the white, wife hates it. R2 is for the wife. She refuses to own a red or white car.
I agree 100%. In fact I think there should be different lights for autonomous driving mode as well. That might not go well though, as I could see other drivers being shitty about it.Well hopefully Rivian has the smarts not to remove amber rear turn signals just for NA. "Amber rear turn signals are generally considered safer and more effective than red ones. Studies from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that amber signals can reduce rear-end collisions by up to 28% compared to red by providing clearer, faster-recognized cues, especially in traffic and in scenarios involving lane changes or turns... While red turn signals are legal in the US, most other countries require amber turn signals, which are widely recognized as a better standard for safety."
"Virtually every country on earth, besides the U.S. and Canada, requires amber rear turn signals. It makes sense. A function that’s very different than braking should use a different color (and definitely should NOT use the same exact light as the stop lamp). Several studies have found that amber rear turn indicators are safer and clearer."

Performance 21 has different finish than Premium. Gunmetal vs paint with diamond cut highlights (like past examples). You could always get the 20 and change tires to all season. So my main hangup point on the R2 performance has been the default 21" wheels. They look dark here. That is awesome. Elsewhere, they look more chrome-like, which makes them look kind of cheap. Has anyone seen them in person to verify what the overall look of the rims are? I wish they offered the 20" as the default for the performance that has been on all the test vehicles up until now.
Where are you reading a different finish? It shows the same on the configurator.Performance 21 has different finish than Premium. Gunmetal vs paint with diamond cut highlights (like past examples). You could always get the 20 and change tires to all season.
You can see it in configurator, look closely. You can also see it in examples shown during SXSW and since.Where are you reading a different finish? It shows the same on the configurator.
I’m leaning towards the latter but it will depend on the price upgrade to get the 20”. If $2k or higher, then I can live with the look of the 21”. Not a deal breaker, just disappointed.
I am with you on this. Wish the LE offered both wheel/tire options at no additional cost.Where are you reading a different finish? It shows the same on the configurator.

If people are not bright enough to know it’s not a Tesla, they won’t know it’s an EV unless it’s charging.Personally I think this will lead to vandalism from people who are not bright enough to know the difference between a Tesla and every other EV, or just hate EVs in general. Sadly this does happen sometimes.
