This person and their friends are on a full-out smear campaign against Rivian right now. Posting this same story multiple times across all social media, forums, and even sending to news agencies. They really want that free brand new replacement, despite the damaged vehicle being 3 years old.
Well said. We really need a shaking my damn head emoji here.

but in posting this, you must think that compensation of the value of the truck and some extra to cover the inconvenience is not sufficient? Why do you feel he should get a brand new truck to replace the current one?

if it’s simply based on a incorrect statement made by an advisor, do you really agree that any mistake in statements made have to be followed through, even if it’s quite unreasonable? Why can’t Rivian make him whole in a reasonable way?

I stated in the other thread he created, if they are using their insurance to write it off and it’s below what he owes, technically they don’t have to do anything, but maybe push them to agree to cover the balance of the loan, and maybe some gear shop points to help buy some goodies for his next Rivian.
Folks, please understand this: This is not my issue. Again, I hope my friend is happy with whatever he gets (in the way of a settlement) from Rivian. My only intent in posting this was to open up some discussion regarding a service center’s liability and written promises to a customer. I am a long time Tesla guy who may become a Rivian owner within a couple of years (as many others may be on this forum). I like to know the characteristics of a company I may invest in (by buying an expensive product of their’s) in the future. Others may, also.

It’s 100% true and easily proven through a simple google search. Multiple posts by the OP across Facebook, X/Twitter, Reddit, Forums and elsewhere. And then multiple posts by his friends/wife, linking to the same story and news they’re trying to generate, just like you did With your post here.

Since I’m bored today, here’s just a few of them:

I seriously doubt you will ever buy a Rivian, you say that as a means to try and continue this smear campaign. Please go back to your Tesla forums and leave the rest of us alone.

I’ve been a member of many automobile forums over the past 25 years or so and this one is, without question, the worst. Looking deeper into past posts here shows me that most negative slants towards Rivian are met with a vicious attack from the same group of ravenous wolves slinging accusations, assumptions, and slander. “Be with us or be gone” seems to be the common theme here. I guess it’s no different than the way the world operates in these times, but I suppose I sat my expectations a little too high for this particular forum. As a Rivian stockholder and R2 reservation holder, I obviously want the best for this company. If trying to point out an injustice in the hopes of them learning from their mistakes is crossing a line, then this isn’t the right forum match for me.

OH THE INJUSTICE OF NOT HAVING YOUR $40K TRUCK REPLACED WITH A $90K TRUCK! If you want the best for this company you shouldn't want Rivian to waste $50k in goodwill on your friend just because they accidentally dropped his truck off a lift. Pretty sure you're not his friend anyways. It's just you.

Justice is Rivian admitting and paying for their mistake rather than making the owner's insurance handle it or putting up a fight. Getting a brand new truck in exchange for a 3 year old truck that depreciated like a rock is not justice, it's wishful thinking. If the owner is unhappy with the offered settlement they can provide comps for similarly clean 3 year old R1Ts and suggest a higher settlement or get a lawyer involved. Nothing in this story makes Rivian look bad so far...

You say vicious attacks yet go on and throw some out yourself. Most people have been moderate and restrained. Merely pointing out the delusion of expecting a new $90k truck to replace a <$50k three year old truck. They have accepted responsibility now it is discussion of terms - not acceding to maximalist demands.

I seriously doubt you will be buying a Rivian, but wonders never cease!

I'll respectfully disagree. I too have done a few laps around the interwebs and have been on many different vehicle forums and there's nothing here that you can't find on similar boards for Toyota, Lexus, Land Rover, BMW, Volvo, etc. They all have their lurkers, their fan boys, their reactionaries, their data heads, the odd troll and (hopefully) a few cooler heads trying to keep things from boiling over.

Who joins enthusiast forums? Enthusiasts. Who doesn't enjoy strangers crapping on their enthusiasms with random anecdotes? Enthusiasts. Who do trolls know they can poke for immediate and emotional responses for their own amusement? Enthusiasts.

Don't get me wrong, it's nominally still a free country so post away with the case reports but don't act surprised when after walking up to some random dude and telling him his wife is ugly that you get punched in the mouth.

The biggest mistake "your friend" made was sharing that delulu letter to RJ on Facebook, which clearly outlines the actual chain of events and directly contradicts his initial post here (and all of the other media outlets that published this crap), where "he" did a good job of selectively leaving out critical details to try to curry favor and rally the troops against Rivian.

From his post here: "The following Monday, I received a call from the regional service manager that Rivian would replace my truck with a new truck, for my betterment, not to my detriment."

From his FB letter to RJ: "Jim told me the replacement would be for my betterment, not to my detriment."

Nowhere in that letter does it say he was ever offered a new truck. He just regurgitates "for my betterment, not my detriment", which clearly he misinterpreted as "new" but any person with half a brain can piece together the actual meaning and intention from Rivian's side.

If you can provide any evidence of your friend being offered a "new" vehicle at any point in time, I will happily eat my shirt and buy you a 6 pack of your choosing.
